They went too far. I'm not saying anything hyberbolic, mind you, but this was too far over the line in terms of how much force to use for protesters here in the USA. It looks like scenes from the wrong kinds of countries.

Reed told CNN affiliate WSB that concerns were increased when a man in the park was seen with an assault rifle. "We could not determine whether the weapon was loaded and could not get additional information on the weapon," he said.

In Atlanta, police arrested demonstrators at a downtown park overnight. The arrests came after Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said he sent ministers to the park "to see if we can find a way to resolve this amicably."

Reed told CNN affiliate WSB that concerns were increased when a man in the park was seen with an assault rifle. "We could not determine whether the weapon was loaded and could not get additional information on the weapon," he said.

Well, that certainly explains the mass arrests at the Tea Party rallies.

I finally saw V for Vendetta the other day. Makes me think even less of people wearing those Guy Fawkes masks.

That being said, those are some messed up pictures. I was watching the news last night around 7, and they were showing those marches, and they were talking about how it was very peaceful with mostly like just protestors and media around, not a lot of cops. Apparently that changed in a few hours.

I think Herman Cain and Nick Searcy should get involved, because if those people are going to San Francisco (to flee the police violence in Oakland), they can give them (yellow) flowers to put in their hair.

Lawfully carrying a firearm and protesting in a peaceful, civilized manner is protected under the 1st and 2nd Amendments. Behaving like a mob of violent unarmed thugs tends to be a problem with law enforcement. What's your point?

//not that most of OWS is like the Oakland crowd. It's just Oakland residents behaving like Oakland residents.

CA has now banned open carry of unloaded firearms. Just recently, actually. Takes effect on Jan. 1 if I'm not mistaken. However, if it really WAS an assault rifle, those have been banned in CA for quite some time. Long guns and handguns in an open carry? Not until just this month.

The point is that having guns in one case was met with caution, and seen as "exercising their rights." In another, it's an excuse to disband the protest. If the cops were applying laws correctly, they would have approached the man and made sure he was in legal compliance.

The point is that the excuse the Mayor of Atlanta used for arresting the peaceful protesters was that there was a report that a gun was seen.

Feel free to now condemn that violation of our 1st and 2nd amendment rights.
