Oh wow, now how about ammunition in your office desk and soda in the filing cabinet?

Whoa, wait a minute....the grenade was found in the safe, and then the grenade is safe?

Seems contradictory.

"Safe", you don't say?

FTFA: The grenade was in a box labeled "BOOM. Do Not Touch,"

That's comedy gold, right there, that is.

Boy, it sure would be nice if we had some grenades, don't you think?

Thats awesome. "Open the safe? No problem." Office probably has a policy specifically prohibiting firearms while neglecting frags.

If it was safe at home it would have scored.

How does one just leave a grenade around. That sucker would be going off the first 4th of July I had it.

/I'm thinking in water off a dock.
//or a nice cliff

Because water stops shrapnel....

Actually yes. But that wasn't the point. You throw it out and the resulting spout of water is awesome.

/can't be the only redneck who has done that on this thread.

Actually, I don't think the creek I'd toss a grenade in would be deep enough. You need a meter or two of water for the effect to kick in and stop it. 4" doesn't seem deep enough to stop anything above a 45 degree angle.

Depends on the projectile. Are you looking at bullets with those #'s? Plus you are talkin a creek bed, which will absorb anything that the water doesn't that would come back in your direction. You'd be safe; don't quote me on that and try it at home with some pineapple your grandfather ganked in the war. I'm just basing that on what I've seen. Plus it could have been a concussion grenade found in that safe, then one wouldn't have to worry about it at all.

example in Iraq (new window)
Better use (new window)

Mythbusters tested the grenade-in-a-bucket, and had a mixed opinion on the results. Shrapnel still struck the test dummies, but with fewer hits and with less apparent energy. It may simply reduce the effective kill radius and produce inconsistencies in predicting lethality. One might limit their criteria to how far one might expect to run after dropping grenade in said bucket.

Sounds like an *inside* job, no?

What kind of workplace do have when your first result is: "shiat Bob left a live grenade in the safe, call the bomb squad" as opposed to "Hey look at this cool gag grenade that Bob left, look I can even pull the....BAM".

Glad the guy was paranoid, but I bet most of my coworkers would assume the grenade was an item for a practical joke and get us all killed.
