You know, they should have done that with World War Z.....

And best of all, once the series ends, they can just start it over and it'll be perfect!

Well, that's it. "Syfy" must now immediately surrender all trademarks, marketing materials and IPs to HBO, who has clearly supplanted it.

The network formerly known as "Syfy" agrees to retain sole distribution rights of "WWE RAW" and "Ghost Hunters".

I'll believe it when I see the HBO trailer, and not one second before.

Please do this HBO.

And if this works, do a Sandman series.

Hey, since HBO is doing this, that means it's not going to suck.

Awesome!

2011-10-25 04:56:18 PM
Let HBO do the Dark Tower series in exchange for Imagine Pictures letting David Milch do the God damned motherfarking cocksucking piece of coontshiat Deadwood movie.

2011-10-25 05:00:20 PM
I'm good with that idea.

Get the cats who wrote Rome on it. Stat.

Pretty much this. Much better than what comes out in the movie theater these days.

Blues_X: And if this works, do a Sandman series.

Saw Gaiman on the tour to support the Graveyard book and he was saying it was more likely that he was going to be able to get American Gods on TV. Yes as a series and yes also on HBO.

I thought that was confirmed, and Tom Hanks' production company was handling it -- which is also a good thing. Very excited about that prospect.

"Sandman" would be awesome, too, as there is no way that anyone will ever turn that into a palatable movie.

"Good Omens" is also a TV series I wouldn't scoff at seeing on HBO -- I bet if Alan Ball could tone down the gay, he could handle it quite capably. (Speaking of, does anyone know what happened to him supposedly doing something with "The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death" by Charlie Huston?)

I don't know anything about the Dark Tower except that each book is like 30,000 pages long so I don't know how they could have a made a movie of it anyway.

Here's hoping HBO is better at adapting King's stuff than the networks.

I'm still waiting on that Dork Tower series.

I am... encouraged.

2011-10-25 07:39:17 PM
On the one hand, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones.

On the other hand, Deadwood, Carnivale, and Rome.

Can HBO keep up the support?

You can't blame the poor guy, his attention span doesn't allow him to read anything longer than a FARK headline or a short response in a comment. How could he appreciate a novel? Much less 6 of them? I sure hope King finishes the series before filming starts.

I'll believe it when I see something more tangible. Still hopeful but not expecting anything to come of this, as we've seen these kinds of articles before.

King writing himself in to the book was horrible and so was the ending.

You do realize there's a crucial difference between Roland's state at the beginning of The Gunslinger and the reiteration of his journey at the end of The Dark Tower, do you not? Hint: The horn of Gilead.

Well, and again I haven't read it but I'm assuming it's a single self contained story so HBO needs to commit to a specific number of seasons to complete the story. No one's going to buy the DVD set if they only cover half of it.

Mugato: I don't know anything about the Dark Tower except that each book is like 30,000 pages long so I don't know how they could have a made a movie of it anyway.

The book is that long because King takes three chapters to say, "he went down the stairs". Personally, I can't stand to read his books. He plods along so much it's like walking in deep mud. A good screenwriter, however, can turn his books into some fairly decent movies by simply getting to the farking point.

2011-10-25 07:50:02 PM
Wasn't this the original Ron Howard idea for Dark Tower - HBO series tentpoled by three movies? I don't know if this is anything new, other than repeating the HBO series idea.

I have no faith in HBO keeping a pricey series on air for the number of seasons it would take to tell the story. They'll cancel it after two seasons and Dark Tower will be a miscarriage.

Sounds like Tolkien. I don't need 20 pages describing a hill and all that damn singing.

Joe Hill.

But this is Fark, so when does what is said in TFA matter, subby?

Oh lord. I'm squeeing like a fangirl. They have remembered the face of their fathers. This is going to be wonderful! GO HBO!

Bring on the lobstrocities and a foul-mouthed/polite and sweet successful and attractive woman with no legs!

And a damn good writer as well. Before I knew who he was, I kept thinking he was writing an awful lot like King in his younger days.

LegacyDL: Is Javier Bardem still going to play Roland?

Brian Glazer hopes he will still do the movie, but Bardem has been cast as the Bond villain in whatever they are going to call James Bond 23.

I wish I hadn't given away my copy of 20th Century Ghosts. I liked Horns, but not as much as that selection. Really reminded me of his pop.

They are making a series of Dark Tower? How much content can you get from "You've been attacked by 16 Brigands"

Tolkein bores the crap out of me. I never could understand why people raved about "The Hobbit". I gave up after three chapters.

I read them all, and recognized them for what they were, young adult books. I prefer other Fantasy authors, some of whom are equally as verbose, to Tolk...

If HBO has not previously been informed of this idea, they should be. It'd be the only thing I could like of that would be able to way out-do Walking Dead.

Well we may have dodged a bullet temporarily. If anyone can do it, HBO would be it.

We need another season of ROME!

How so? Brian Glazer said HBO is picking up the TV end of the project within the last 24 hours or so, said they have cut the budget for the movie end so they can (hopefully) get it made within the past 48 hours.

BTW, Ender's Game in theaters March 15, 2013.

Ok great... so when can I see a Y: The Last Man HBO series?

And so my hope for this project nudges upward from 'Oh god this is probably gonna suck' to 'This might actually be okay'.
