But how would it affect Fark?

ManateeGag: But how would it affect Fark?

it would kill news aggregator sites dead in a heartbeat. incidentally, this would also murder freerepublic.com as well.

but hey - its cool because corporations would be murdering the 1st amendment. which is totally ok with the GOP.

No thanks. I'm willing to get worked up over the thought of yet more "protection" for these "rights" holder industries. They're nothing but a bunch of parasites. They create nothing, and then bribe Congress to shiat all over us for their troubles.

No thanks.

I'm waiting for someone to finally get it into their head that copyright goes into perpetuity, and to be owned by the publisher, not the author.

Because that won't backfire either...

oh...well then in no case should you EVER go reasearch something called ACTA. Because that shiat would melt your brain into a puddle of anger and pure jellied rage.

Pretty much this. The smoking remnants of the idea formerly knows as the internet would be littered with the bodies of:

YouTube
Facebook
MySpace (not that I care, but still relevant)
Google+
LinkedIn
Pandora
Beatport
Twitter
Google Images
Icanhazcheeseburger & other meme generators
Fark
Reddit
BoingBoing
..pretty much 8/10 of sites that appear here as links

oh, and if the adult industry jumps on the bandwagon, then you can kiss most adult content services goodbye as well.

oh, forgot to add just about every blog out there (esp. political ones), as they rely on user generated content to drive traffic.

this is assuming of course that the GOP gets their way. But even a watered down version of this sort of legislation could severely impact internet culture.

well of course, because government telling people what they can or can't say is wrong. But corporations telling people what they can and can't say is awesome and free market-y. bootstrappy even.

I wonder if the part restricting the freedom of speech is there as a way to make the other parts of the bill reasonable when it is removed.

It would be one step closer to the safe shopping mall internet that some people want.so bad.

And despite the gaping damage that this gonzo bill would do to the internet, it will be the double teaming of free porn that arouses the anger of the masses and fluffs them into a frenzy.

I'm pretty sure that most of these companies are doing better than a lot of record companies now, hopefully that factors in.

2011-10-25 07:17:55 PM
I'm sick of these motherfarking Republicans in my motherfarking Internets! This shiat, attempts to destroy Net Neutrality, disguising Internet snooping bills as anti-child predator bills when they do NOTHING to stop predators (citation, clicky-pops)... Keep your filthy, Koch-stroking hands off!

I will bet, though, if this bill passes and does negatively affect/eliminate websites like YouTube, Facebook, etc., then we will finally start getting our nation's youth off of their asses and into the voting booths kicking the Greedy Old Pricks to the curb where they belong. The Internet is too interwoven into our daily lives for a threat this all-encompassing to not have an effect.

Forget OWS. If this passed, there would be massive rioting all over the globe.

Thankfully, though, Google and Facebook probably have lobbyists it can use to try and dissuade this from being passed.

/the first time a lobbyist has ever been good

fark this shiat, the US needs to remove all corporate tax and thus remove all business lobbyists. They're literally farking over the entire world for the rich. the 9% of revenue isn't worth it.

not to mention the fact that so long as you get a corporation to do it for you then it's entirely legal.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that this bill was introduced by a Democrat, and has received more bi-partisan sponsorship and support than we're used to seeing. shiat, that just made this thing even more terrifying. =/

The Middle Eastern Dictators where thrown out because they failed to meet the demands of the youth of their Nation. Today our Government is failing to listen to the demands of the youth of our Nation. What would we call it - following the nomenclature of the Arab Spring? The American Fall?

Senators and Congressmen of my Nation have been in bed with Corporations too long. Today I found that your party in Congress is trying to censor the internet. This will not stand. This will not be allowed. This is censorship, and a gross violation of our human rights.

There will be an American Fall if the honorable Senators and Congressmen of our Nation decide to attack the very thing that the youth of this Nation have built their society around. A society clean and separated from the ancient, corrupted systems of the 20th Century.

I demand you ask your party to cease and desist its attack on the civil rights of our people. I demand you tell your party to stop lying to their people, claiming they want smaller Government while passing rules that arm and increase the size and scope of Government and Corporation. I demand you stop putting yourself in debt to Corporations by taking their allowance and listening to their demands. I demand you guide yourself with ethics, and listen to the vote of the people, instead of the dollars of the Corporations. I demand you vote NO and refuse to co-sponsor continued attacks against the civil liberties of American people.

Call your Congress partners right now. Tell them to stop COICA 2.0, the Internet Censorship Bill. Make a promise, a pledge to the American people that you will cease and desist attacking the communication, speech, and rights of our Nation.

I need you, Senator, to step forward and bring the Bill of Rights to the 21st century. Your failure to do this will force the youth of this Nation to vote against you and yours - and if you decide to continue hijacking and hoodwinking our Democracy, you can be sure that the Arab Spring will manifest itself against the hideous corruption that you have allowed to grow in our Government.

Please, Congresswoman - stop the American Fall before it's too late.

Thank you, in liberty,

While I doubt that it actually has any bearing, I can't help but notice that this is happening during the OWS protests, and after the role that twitter and facebook played in the Arab spring, it's probably just a coincidence. Or maybe illuminati reptilian shape-shifters....i dunno. All I know is that I better not have to go to a store to buy my porn in 5 years.

The youth of our nation? More like the everyone of our nation.

This would absolutely destroy the U.S. economy for good. I still haven't decided if its worth it if this gets the entire GOP lynched and beaten to death in the streets.

Can Anonymous hack the personal accounts of the GOP scum responsible for this atrocity? Perhaps some child pornography should "appear" in the congressmen's e-mail accounts.
