NJ politics is a little different....It's nearly a contact sport and the issues are not left vs right.

Being a Republican, presumably a wide one.

I'm surprised that they didn't wait until the day before the election to have this arrive, much more effective as it doesn't give the opponent a chance to reply.

Don't blame me I voted for Goatse.

"I am not gay and I'm not against anyone who is gay," Tersigni said Monday, adding he lives with his girlfriend. "People have a right to make their own personal choices in life."

Well, he is living in sin, shacking up with his girlfriend...but at least he isn't gay.

No, of course not.

"Listen to this. Marcy comes over and she tells me that her ex-boyfriend was over late last night and 'yada yada yada I'm really tired today.' You don't think she'd yada yada sex?"
"I've yada yada'd sex."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I met this lawyer, we went out to dinner, I had the lobster bisque, we went back to my place, yada yada yada, I never heard from him again."
"But you yada yada'd over the best part."
"No, I mentioned the bisque."

The present mayor says:

It's my right to perform straight marriages and not gay marriages.

Wrong, farkface. It's your right to believe that heterosexual relationships are somehow more deserving of official recognition than non-hetero relationships. It's your duty, as an elected public official, to act within the dictates of the laws written and passed by the representatives of the people - and if those laws require you, in your official capacity as mayor, to conduct marriage ceremonies for straight and gay couples without discrimination, do your damn job and conduct the ceremonies. You can engage in civil disobedience, but you must also be willing to assume the consequences of standing against the law.

In his case, he chose to simply refrain from doing any ceremonies... and blamed Jon Corzine for somehow preventing him from conducting ceremonies at all - oh, waitasec, he wanted to illegally discriminate, and chose to blame someone else for his subsequent choices. Way to demonstrate personal responsibility there, Mr. Mayor.

Not to mention, populated entirely by people you'd see at www.peopleofwalmart.com

On the flip side - why the fark would I want an anti-gay mayor (or any anti-gay official) performing my 'gay' marriage ceremony?

If descriptions of this area are accurate, pointing at a candidate and calling him gay just might work. In most other non-tucky places in the US, it's not 1950 and nobody really cares about this sort of thing and is a bit tired of politicians who think so little of their constituents to stoop to such childish behavior.

Ain't gonna happen. In fact, we'll see a backlash against gay politicians as the unintended consequences of years of caving in to gay special interests finally unfold.

What kind of sense does it make to claim someone is "openly" gay? That's making a statement that's demonstrably true or false . It would make more sense to claim someone is a closeted homo. That way you can level the accusation and nobody's really sure whether it's true.

I think it has to do with the whole air of desperation that clings to gays as a group. They are constantly seeking validation, evidenced by the recent battles over military service and gay marriage. They used to ask for tolerance, but it soon became clear that mere tolerance wasn't enough, and that they weren't going to settle for anything less than full embrasure from the hetero majority.

If a candidate is actually openly gay, why would you need to send a letter to point that out? Shouldn't it, by definition, be obvious?

Does it really count as a troll if other people share that view? I mean, great troll there, but just as a technical detail, how does that work? I mean, isn't the point of the troll to be so outlandish it's almost unbelievable, or are regularly-held views considered trolls as well if stated for the intent of trolling?

"I have nothing against gay people," Halley said. "If that's one of my jobs as mayor, I'd probably do it if legal and required of me."

Can you imagine being in a job interview and telling your potential boss that you'd "probably" do the work you're being hired to do?

Yeah, maybe. Make it really over-the-top. That's what makes it interesting. Maybe throw in a few really insane things.

Gay democrats are generally open about it and have healthy relationships.

Gay republicans tend to be self-loathing closet cases in full denial.

Yet according to the article he "claims he has nothing against gay people." Amazing how these bigots are suddenly non-bigots when given the chance to speak in general terms.

He's a democrat, so it's easy to understand why a gay organization would think he enjoys the man on man butt sex fetish. I'm not sure what he does behind closed doors has to do with his being a Mayor.
Most democrats have tried or wish to experiment with man on man butt sex. Republicans and Independents understand this and most of us aren't shocked by this fetish anymore.

I'm running for city council and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune made goddam sure to tell everyone about my sexual preferences when I really didn't want it to be a campaign issue (LINK - pops). Strangely, in the articles about my opponents, none of them were tagged as openly straight.

Also those were dress tan Oxfords, not loafers.
