Might makes right, duh.

You know as far as corporations go, these aren't even great schmuck stories. How about over selling the flight? Selling tickets knowing that there is no way you can deliver. Offering only a partial refund for a late cancellation? That almost makes me take the side of the airlines. I once had a flight delayed for over 12 hours. Their offer? $100 dollars off my next flight with them. No meal. No refund. Sure, I'd love to fly with you guys again!

Gunny Walker: over selling the flight

That sh*t makes me furious.

How is selling something that doesn't exist not fraud?

Imagine a situation where no matter what you did...no matter how much money you stole, or no matter how many people you killed, you had absolute immunity from incarceration.

Well, there you are.

Where I are?

I still wouldn't do it because it's fu*king wrong.

FTFA: Refund the $564.30 round-trip ticket price? Forget it. The airline wouldn't even consider it.

This is why I book through priceline, their flight insurance is something like $16.

Because they own Congress.

Some people act like the concept of "corporate personhood" is a new thing. The rule that a corporation is considered a "person" within the meaning of the constitution has been around for more than a century.

Meh, if there was an emergency and I had to leave my TGI Fridays dinner sitting there uneaten, I'd fully expect to have to pay. It's not Delta's fault your husband had a heart attack.

If corporations want to be considered 'people', let's flag every dollar they make as income and tax them like people.

Corporations are made up of people.

Corporate stockholders are people who invested money instead of blowing it on weed and video games, thus delaying gratification for the possibility of profitable return on that investment. This makes them evil.

Occupy!

Well, then again it seems they are recently getting more rights than they have had in the past.

If TGI Fridays sold your uneaten meal to the next guy you'd have a point.

maybe something about many people at the top can be antisocial? Maybe something about distance from the top to the people in the company or using the company products? maybe something about profit goals? maybe something about shareholders expectations? maybe something about people who work there just following orders? or maybe something about people who work there with a mentality get to the top any way possible?

Every dollar they made was already taxed at the cash register, and the dollars used to purchase the good/service was taxed by income tax, and before it was given to the employee it was taxed in business payroll tax, and before the employee earned it the raw materials/whatever the business used was taxed, but yeah, throw another tax on there. Who can tell at this point.

If we were a fair society, we'd tax their gross revenue, not their net profits.

C'mon man everyone knows it's cheaper to rent Congressmen, that way you can junk'em when they outlive their utility.

Calmamity: Gunny Walker: over selling the flight

That sh*t makes me furious.

So much this. I still have no earthly idea how they get away with this. If a pro baseball team did this, they'd get their asses sued. Look at what happened at the Dallas Super Bowl when a group of people were denied entry because their section of seats was considered unsafe. Lawsuits, and the Cowboy Stadium lawyers had to basically hand over thousands of dollars of stuff to try to settle.

Had they gone to court, I bet Cowboys Stadium would have lost. Big. And that was only partially their fault.

Imagine if they purposely oversold it and left people hanging.

I was being sarcastic. I'm all in favor of taxing companies, and especially capital gains at roughly the same rate as payroll taxes.

To caveat my point... I bet they get away with it with small print that says something like "this is not a guaruntee of being on this flight, its just your preference, and we may put you on a later flight."

Still should be illegal- just answering your question.

I thought they were individual people though. Your point would seem to contradict that.

People do have the right to be schmucks/assholes, but how do I punch a corporation in the face? And, there's no way to jail a corp for illegal activities, so their rights need to be curtailed somehow.

Yep. Plenty of times corrupt/neglegent corporations have "died". Enron? Dead. Worldcom? Dead. And so on and so forth.

They are people who own a company yet have no legal liability for the actions of that company. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE.

Down with limited liability. Allow the owners to bear the full criminal and civil punishments that their corporations are guilty of.

Smelly Pirate Hooker: "So if corporations are people too, why do they sometimes always have to be such schmucks assholes?"

Because profit is their only reason for existence. Even when they do the right thing, it's usually because of public outcry and shame that makes people stop buying their product, which reduces profits.
