How long until the inevitable headline, "Google-"?

I was afraid this was going to be an obit for the second man on the Moon.

Isn't this a repeat?

Good riddance. Interestingly their "Google Takeout" service says that my Google Voice account archive would have an estimated 109 files with 2kb size, which makes me think that it wouldn't include my saved voicemail data, which is bullshiat.

What's the buzz? Tell me what's a happening.

Google buzz was pretty stupid from the start. I guess it was a precursor to Google+.

What? Again?

"updated 10/14/2011"

Oh.

When is it going to disappear anyways?

Yahoo! Buzz was also killed off recently.

(No, I'm not kidding -- it was a Digg clone that was about as successful as Yahoo's other products, i.e. not at all.)

Woof.

Flickr much? (Not saying the company is great, just saying that they're not all crap.)

I love Flickr (and I have a pro account) but let's be honest here -- that's a company Yahoo! bought and has done everything possible to run it into the ground. They still don't have a decent iPhone app for fark's sake!

Eh, I don't buy the whole "but they just bought it!" argument.

Google's big-name acquisitions:
Picasa
Android
YouTube
DoubleClick
Postini
reCAPTCHA
Zagat
And many, many more.

As far as Flickr goes-- I don't use it, so I can't say whether or not it's a good product, but it's certainly a successful product.

You missed Google Maps!!

But my point isn't that buying a company isn't a good strategy, it's that it's Yahoo!'s only strategy for successful products. Everything they develop in-house turns to crap, and most of the companies they buy are mistreated and die off or are sold off again eventually.

"Retiring" Buzz? More like dismembered with an ax.

Oh, c'mon. Google has made several of their own technologies that turned out pretty damn well. Yahoo! has . . . well, their pool game is all right in a pinch.

I completely agree, and I wasn't saying they didn't, I was just refuting the "well, they bought it so it doesn't count" point.

I turned that sh*t off permanently the third day after it got rolled out.

Google Buzz = Russian @$$ buzzer.
