Wait, NYU pays a guy for this? To tell the NYPD that people can find out your... wait for it.... IP ADDRESS!

We're doomed. Dooooooooooooooooooooooooomed.

Look anybody who knows Visual Basic can create a GUI interface to track your IP address, so this really shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody.

And any kid who knows Unix can use the built-in flying GUI to maneuver directly to the controls for the velociraptor paddock your hard drive.

wow, that was an offensive article.

I obviously haven't read fox news in years, but, they're not even trying anymore are they. I mean, that's worse than the Daily Mail.

On a side note, I wonder what will happen when someone informs Fox that your IP address can be tracked just by you browsing to a web site.

Easier ways to find me than exploiting flaws in Skype.

The number of stolen Skype sex videos on the net makes it pretty obvious that Evil Computer Nerds (and, more the point, Evil Computer Geeks) have been 'hunting you' for a long time already.

Most people are dragging their IP address' skanky ass all over the internet anyhow. You are more susceptible to compromise searching for antivirus on Google.

Where the hell did you get the NYPD bit?

The researcher apparently made a finding of interest -- that you can keep a running monitor on the IP addresses of users as they roam, without placing actual calls to them that would register on their end.

The reporters, probably after asking questions like "Who could manage to do this" quoted the few juicy sentences that made the best sound-bytes. For Pete's sake, use a little critical thinking when reading sensationalist Fox /NY Post articles. They always grab some remarks (or answers to reporter's questions) that sound extreme when read in isolation, and then they pad it out with some sensationalist paraphrasing.
