I don't imagine very many superstitious actors will be clamoring for a role in the Poltergeist remake.

Cage might be able to handle Costner's roll.

Yeah, why? It's the perfect film as-is.

Real Genius is being remade, too. How you improve that, I don't know.

We had a thread like this recently, and someone was trying to tell me that Hollywood has always done remakes, so what's going on now isn't out of the ordinary. I still maintain that there is a much higher percentage of films coming out that are remakes.

2011-10-25 10:58:28 AM
they're not remaking black swan? or the departed? wtf?

2011-10-25 11:00:33 AM
Commando, huh? Now that there's no more DADT, I wonder if they'll make the villain actually gay instead of just dressing him up like a leather daddy. Still, there's no way they could make that fight any gayer.

Let off some "steam", Bennett.

2011-10-25 11:00:40 AM
Cliffhanger? Why even bother with the pretense of remaking it? Why not just have the common decency to shoot the same general story and call it something different.

Orgasmatron138: Real Genius is being remade, too. How you improve that, I don't know.

Mother of God, man. Please tell me you're kidding. How in the world could they possibly think they could improve upon the original?

There is a much higher percentage of remakes over the past 5 years or so. I would cite a source, but it's been quite a while since I found that article. But the author crunched the numbers and found it to be true. The article said that it supposedly isn't related to a lack of ideas in Hollywood, it's just that the major studios would rather bet on a sure thing, when it comes to box office profits.

The original blew and so can you!

2011-10-25 11:03:12 AM
These should never been remade, they are classics and have been classics for forever. Especially NE Story and FotN as those are 80's kids movies and we all know that today's kids movies are awful, censored, PC movies and don't hold a candle to their 80's brethren.

Porky's is shocking...I don't even know how to respond to that. It's like taking on Animal House as a remake; ditto for Police Academy.

Wargames could be interesting, IF and only IF they do it right.

2011-10-25 11:05:15 AM
Porky's in no way can be improved upon.

2011-10-25 11:05:15 AM
Just more proof that hollywood is 'dead'. Why not remake "The Black Hole" or "Jaws" and make them 3-D?

/sarcasm

2011-10-25 11:05:27 AM
Maybe in a new Porky's it won't be so obvious that the high school kids are all in their 30s.

2011-10-25 11:06:23 AM
Porky's, The Wild Bunch, and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure should be left alone. I don't see a way they could be improved.

2011-10-25 11:07:42 AM
You don't need a list for this. Just think of a film or TV show from your formative years and go look it up on IMDb. Chances are pretty decent that if it hasn't already been remade it is in development.

2011-10-25 11:08:18 AM
Did FARK really just put a giant robot chicken ad on its sidebar?

2011-10-25 11:08:54 AM
The only thing a remake of Neverending Story could do would be to make it closer to the book, but I think to cover everything that was in the book, it would have to be way too long for a kids movie. The original movie was basically the first half of the book.

/for those that haven't read the book, about half way in, Bastian is transported to Fantasia (Fantastica in the book) and explores the various lands within it
//Also, it actually does end after almost 400 pages.

2011-10-25 11:09:00 AM
Here's what it comes down to: Most people younger than you don't want to watch movies from your generation, even if they're great, because they're "old". They need it updated with all the newest technology (both in production, and written into the story).

Kids today don't want to watch a movie in which the protagonists have no cell phones.

"It" was good until the end, where it just sort of fell apart. Still, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone as creepy as Tim Curry for Pennywise.

I agree. Hollywood has always done remakes, and there's nothing wrong with that. Some of the classics were actually remakes. But this is ridiculous. At this point it's harder to come up with a title from the past 20 years that hasn't been remade or isn't in the process of being remade than one that has. A lot harder. And of course 90% of them are total crap. I'm pretty sure there's a higher ratio of crap remakes to non-crap remakes than there ever has been.

As annoying as the creatively anorexic remakes are, I'm almost more annoyed by movies that get labeled as remakes or parts of a franchise when they obviously aren't. The upcoming Twilight Zone movie is my latest example. There's nothing Twilight Zone about it. It's just a movie. Don't hitch it to the Twilight Zone wagon out of laziness and greed; have the balls to let your movie stand on its own.

Are we sure this isn't a leaked list from Vivid or another adult company? Half of those could easily double as porn titles.

It's not about that. It's about repackaging working plots for a new generation with the added benefit of not having to invest as much in a new brand. The target audience has never seen or heard of half these movies. They'll gladly watch the same thing with a different name. And then old people will see it again just to relive or biatch about the remake. It's a total moneymaker. They wouldn't do it if it didn't work.

No.

Poltergeist Hell no!

Overboard Huh?

Porky's If there are more boobs, then sure. If there are going to be less boobs, don't waste my time.

House Party Don't care.

The Never Ending Story HELL NO!

Cliffhanger Meh.

Police Academy No.

Videodrome It might benefit with better special FX, but most likely it will suck hard.

Flight of the Navigator GODDAMMIT, NO!

The Harder they Come You said, "come."

Stephen King's It This one actually needs it. The miniseries sucked aside from all of Tim Curry's scenes.

Three Men and a Baby And who will be playing the part of the on-set cut-out everyone claims is a ghost?

The Wild Bunch No.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure fark. You.

I find that those movies are actually better then most modern movies. And Im in my mid 20s. Most of these movies I grew up watching. I hate that Hollwood thinks they have to remake these movies. Dont farking touch Flight of the Navigator! Youll just turn it into some gritty sci fi "aliens come to take over the word and only the boy can stop them" crap anyways.

It might have been hamstrung by the fact that it was a TV miniseries, so I'm guessing the book's ending had to be trashed right away.
Then again, I thought the book's ending was pretty dumb.
