(Daily News) Stupid Rand Corp has retracted a report showing that crime went up in neighborhoods where pot dispensaries were shut down. Pressure from LA City Attorney had nothing to do with it, of course   (dailynews.com) divider line 60

People will smoke pot. It's inevitable.

Shutting down the legal channels simply opens the illegal ones.

Question:

How many for profit prisons are in California?

It's almost like making something illegal has consequences.

Only the ones owned at least partly by the leaders that have choices in this matter.

2011-10-24 06:18:55 PM
and what of the reverse vampires?

none, but California DOES house over 10k prisoners in for profit prisons in other states.

I'm totally pro-pot, but the study sounds pretty worthless. I mean, the entire study was 20 days long.

Opens? They never shut to begin with. I should know, I live in weed-central, USA.

i cant wait for the newer, actual police reports to show that crime went up 70%, not 60%. but that would be like hell freezing over.

I can't wait to see what kind of professional sport we get out of legalizing drugs. I mean, 'shine runners eventually gave us NASCAR when they got put out of business, we have cigarette boat racing due to unemployed rum runners, so what new competition will out of work coke mules and weed runners invent?

/The future is going to be awesome.

I'm grieving the loss of the local clinic with the cheap dank that closed on Friday. These past couple years I relied more on the clinic and stopped growing my own, then last week they shut down all the spots. Like some kinda nazi blitzkrieg. Now all the patients are trying to secure new connections and even the delivery services are kicking up prices now that they are the only options.

The feds singlehandedly delivered billions of dollars into cartel pockets with this latest move, as tens of thousands of people are forced to the streets to buy pot illegally now. I called up an old coworker and gang member dealer last night myself sadly, the prices can't be beat. He said business has been picking up massively over the weekend.

If you don't support cannabis legalization on a moral level, you should at least want it legal so the US gets compensated. As it stands were pumping billions to dirty Mexican drug dealers so they can continue to commit all kinds of heinous crimes. Its just a farking plant that relaxes you, get the fu k over it.

Ok, so Rand Corp did a study comparing crime statistics 10 days before and after the dispensary closings. But the DA and LAPD are saying they withheld the crime statistics from LAPD.

Did they withhold the numbers for both the 'before' and 'after'? Or just 'after'?

Either way I don't see this really changing the results of the study.

Weed causes crime.

The crime of smoking weed.

In order to stop people from smoking weed and playing video games, we must break into peoples homes, take all their possessions, throw them in jail, and make sure they can never get a job.

Prohibition just works, trust us, we're the government.

Also, give us lots of money for our anti-drugs programs. We know you will because you are too stupid to realize it doesn't work and we're making money off you AND the illegal weed dealers.

Ehh

More on Carmen Trutanich:

http://politicswithoutpity.wordpress.com/2011/10/19/extortion-accusat i on-against-city-attorney-trutanich-to-be-heard-in-superior-court/

So, evidently the study wasn't much good, but Trutanich seems to have overreacted, which seems to be a pattern with him.

In bad economic times, there has to be someone we can disposess. Witches, religion, or race are not options at this time. So why not people who are obviously disobediant.

Well the Rand Corporation is about as corrupt as it gets. They have a long history of covering up information. Remember, they were the guys who tried to bury the infamous Vietnam War Pentagon Papers.

Luckily we had a great American like Daniel Ellsburg to blow the lid off of their corruption.

Some things never change.

Exactly. If the data is somehow biased it will be the same bias in both cases. Unless it's somehow total garbage the change is meaningful even if the data is bad.

In New York we have heard police whistleblowers tell of being commanded to underreport certain crimes in order to improve the city's (statistical) image. I got to listen to an audiotape recording of the guy's Seargent specifically discussing how the numbers were to be manipulated.

Now I expect we'll hear California police whistleblowers tell of being commanded to overreport certain crimes in order to justify whatever statist program is currently en vogue.

Hey remember when Rand Corp got lots of contracts to perform studies and services for the city of LA?

They still do.

Weaver95: hey, we can't have people telling the truth out there. the entire war on drugs DEPENDS on maintaining the Big Lie.

While that may be true, I think this sounds legit. It's not like Rand came out said the opposite of what was in the report, they retracted it because their data was flawed, and if that is the case, good on them. TFA even says they plan on doing another study when they have better data. I'm ok with this. The pro-legalization side should make every effort to appear on the up-and-up.

2011-10-24 09:23:15 PM
I'm not sure if this is the same report, but all the medical cannabis rags were flaunting the same story about crime increasing after closures in their October issues. While I enjoy reading the weed mags, they are all more biased than a fark weed thread and they start to get repetitive.

I don't know facts for this area.

But I believe in the concept that the lack of inexpensive weed leads to more law breaking that is not weed related.
