Basically it has gotten to the point that anything other than immediately obeying commands is a pepper spraying.

The cop felt threatened by the haka so the kids did it well.

If I were allowed to mace people for blocking the exit after a game, I'd have to buy a lot more mace. Good on him.

The dance is less scary when white people do it.

They got pepper sprayed because they were blocking an exit and wouldn't move. If I was trying to get out of a football game and a bunch of morans blocked it, started dancing, and wouldn't move, I would pepper spray them myself.

Why use pepper spray when you can use your karate on them?

So, they got served, then?

Don't block the exit punks.

"Just pretend you're visiting a huge outdoor loony bin," I said. "If the inmates get out of control we'll soak them down with Mace." I showed him the can of "Chemical Billy," resisting the urge to fire it across the room at a rat-faced man typing diligently in the Associated Press section. We were standing at the bar, sipping the management's Scotch and congratulating each other on our sudden, unexplained luck in picking up two sets of fine press credentials. The lady at the desk had been very friendly to him, he said. "I just told her my name and she gave me the whole works."

A haka is a Maori ceremony meant to call down ancestors before battle, not after. And it serves to intimidate. Why a group of people in Utah would be doing it after a sporting event is lost on me.

2011-10-24 02:28:39 PM
Man, they sure did look threatening squated down with both hands in front of them, dancing.... While blocking an exit.. Thank god it wasn't an entrance that may have been a tazering.

I was always baffled by the seemingly large number of Asian/Pacific Islanders coming out of schools like BYU and Utah. Apparently LDS has gotten a lot of Samoan, Fijian, etc.... converts in the last few decades. I just looked it up and 2.2% of Utah is either Tongan, Fijian or Samoan. Thought it was pretty interesting since Utah isn't exactly an immigration hot spot compared to cities on the coast (LA, Miami, NYC, San Fran).

Honestly, I'd really like to see an article where a group of idiotic jackbooted cops again OVERREACTED and sprayed a crowd with pepper spray. Oh wait... these days thats EVERY TIME they react.

I can't wait to read about the day ppl start kneecapping cops or beating cops with their own night sticks when they do this shiat. The day that starts you'll see the cops stop being asshats and start showing respect to the citizenry again.

me thinks some of yas need reading comp. they blocked an exit and refused an order to vacate. if they did so and went to the middle of the field or in an open area in the parking lot, say, there would not have been any issue. overreacted?

OK, so it should have gone like this:

Cop: Do not block the exit, allow those waiting to leave do so.
DoucheNozzles: Nah. We gonna dance in everyone's way.
Cop: OK, carry on. Cause when the folks piling up unable to get home start a rumble, no way any blame would be put my way.

Out of my way, ozholes.

Dumb-asses block the exit so people can't leave
People ask dumb-asses to move so they can leave
Dumb-asses refuse
Cops ask dumbasses to move people can leave
Dumb-asses dance
Cops demand dumbasses to move people can leave
Dumb-asses refuse and continue to dance
Cops spice the dancers.

Good.

So at what point does the rights of the those wanting to taunt and dance infringe upon the rights of those wanting to leave the stadium?

If I want to leave the stadium, but I cant because another group with more members has decided to take up the walkway, their rights to do what they want are more important than what I want???

//Not a troll, just curious about the opinions

Why are non-Maori/Kiwis doing a haka? Or do they do a different war dance and just use the wrong name?

They should know the consequences if they do something unexpected and being minority. It scares and frightens LEO. It causes the douche bag switch to turn on inside of their head and you know the rest.

'Cause there are no reasons
What reason do you need to be pepper sprayed?

Why would Tongans, Fijians or Samoans do a haka? Or has that just become the catch-all name for all pacific islander war challenges/dances?

/I believe the Hawaiian football team does Ka Mate before some of its games. I believe no Maori has ever played for Hawaii's football team.

Our field looked just like that when I was in highschool. They lined up the marching band right at that exit during halftime so we could get on the field quick for the halftime show. Glad we never got pepper sprayed.

Its becoming increasingly ghey as the years go by. Farking All Blacks are the prima donnas of rugby. Get sum nuts!

The LDS is very active in missionary work in the Pacific basin. A lot of them like living in the desert so you get very heavy travel between the islands and Utah/Nevada.

Look up the PCC: the Mormans respect the culture at the same time they are spreading their faith.

If they respected their culture, they wouldn't be over there telling them their religion was wrong and to convert to Mormonism.

That is also an excellent question for which I have no answer. I would lean toward it being a catch-all. Doing a quick google/youtube search, it appears Hawaii calls it a haka as well. Might be less a Maori thing and more a Polynesian thing.

Spectators, coaches and players told police everything was fine and they should let them perform, said witness Jessica Rasmussen. But officers told them to make room and began using pepper spray.

This is not about people leaving as you are framing it. This is about the use of police force and options. What other options did police have before pepper spraying. Talking...taking out handcuffs...arresting one of the group. Not to mention they are using pepper spray in an enclosed and tight environment.

Police seem to be trained to use force and nothing else these days.

Sounds like they did a great job.

From the article:
Ms Rasmussen said she and other bystanders also got spray in their eyes, ears and mouths. Union fan Jason Kelly said the way police reacted was an embarrassment to the community of Roosevelt.

Maybe more than a just military background and clean record should be required to be a cop.

How about,

Stop blocking the exits or we will arrest you ?

or please move so people can exit, you can do your cheer over there ?

Why should it escalate to pepper spray and violence immediately ?

Police officers sure have gotten a lot dumber over the years.

Police seem to be trained to use force and nothing else these days.

The video seems to indicate that they were told to move a few times and refused.. so, then yeah, it really is how I framed it

They want to do their dance, people on the other side of the dance want to leave, they wont move, insisting on doing their dance..

then they're rights are more important than the people who want to leave..

Maybe using spray wasnt the best move, but there are two officers and how many dancers?? Once a group has been instructed (Lawfully) to move, and they refuse? What's next??

At least they did the older Haka. The new one just isn't the same.
