That has got to be a fake. I don't believe it.

+1 Subby...

Ooops...

2011-10-24 09:49:00 AM
Think of it this way, the odds of that happening are exactly the same as winning anyways.

No YOU'RE a Towel: Think of it this way, the odds of that happening are exactly the same as winning anyways.

Which are exactly the same as the odds of having some other, completely different set of numbers.

Can you tell by the pixels, and having seen many 'shops in your time?

I actually did more of a HAHA Guy thing.

/HA! HA!

Yes, this did make me laugh.

No YOU'RE a Towel: Think of it this way, the odds of that happening are exactly the same as winning anyways.

Actually the odds are better because there are two numbers within 1 integer of each individual winning number, therefore there are multiple combinations of 1-up/1down arrangements.

TFA blocked.
So pics or it didn't happen.

I would grab the occasional PowerBall quick pick back in the day when the jackpot got big and I found myself in a store that sold them. I had a ticket pretty similar to this one once, 3 of 6 matched, the other 3 were 1 number off.

At least I got my dollar back.

Nope, exactly the same.

Each number on the ticket was exactly one integer higher than the actual number. There's only one set of numbers for which that is true.

2011-10-24 12:32:55 PM
I'll send that guy a dollar right now.

2011-10-24 12:33:21 PM
So he got no number right. Lots of people do that. The fact that he was 1 number off on all numbers is odd, but he still got zero numbers..

2011-10-24 12:33:36 PM
Blocked at work, is this the photo that's been floating around facebook with the lottery ticket that is off by one on every number?

Yeah, I quickly noticed that too and I hate math.

Yes.

No one noticed Milhouse (Milhoes) on the ticket? Fark, I am disappoint.

/not a meme

2011-10-24 12:38:19 PM
hehehe, "Euro Millhouse".

2011-10-24 12:38:31 PM
So he got all the numbers wrong?

2011-10-24 12:38:38 PM
I seem to remember a story about some lady that played for like 20 years, and each week she played the same numbers. Every week like clockwork. One week, she had something go wrong with her car and needed repairs so she couldn't afford to play. That week, her numbers hit, something like 60 million. I don't even want to imagine how I'd feel.

2011-10-24 12:38:56 PM
While unique, technically that wasn't even close. clicking 'next' did make me do the Nelson point and laugh though.

2011-10-24 12:40:06 PM
That's no closer than any other non-winning combination.

sweet name for their lottery.

I'd get a MilHoes too if I won.

airplane_mech2: That has got to be a fake. I don't believe it.

I agree. My theory is that the last zero in 2011/10/20 is 'shopped, as it looks considerably different than the other zeros on the ticket. This guy probably bought a ticket a day after the numbers were announced, and 'shopped his way to a story.

/seen a lot of 'shops in my day

Yup. Oh man.

"I came so close!!!!!"

...except that you didnt get a single number, and failed just as hard as every other lottery player.

2011-10-24 12:51:13 PM
Chigau: i don't really consider that "Almost Winning." A surprising happenstance, sure.

Also true. Any other non-winning ticket also "almost won", just with far less panache.

2011-10-24 12:52:27 PM
Wow. That's amazing. I'll bet the odds against that happening were like 15 to 1.

Did anyone else look at the next picture on that page and lol?

2011-10-24 12:56:00 PM
It was purchased 2mins AFTER the numbers were drawn. Of course it is fake.

2011-10-24 12:57:57 PM
There were 15 guys at a beer joint near my home played a lottery pool every week. They hit the big one, and after taxes it worked out to $450,000 each.

Within two years, 13 of the 15 were broke again.

Former Dallas Cowboy "Hollywood" Henderson, flat broke after wasting millions, hit the Texas lottery for $8 million some years back.

Probably broke again.

No YOU'RE a Towel: Think of it this way, the odds of that happening are exactly the same as winning anyways.

Yes, but the odds of having a non-winning ticket with some kind of mathematical relationship to the winning ticket are much higher than the odds of winning. Someone might have a ticket with every number 1 greater than the winning numbers, someone might have a ticket with every number 3 less. Someone might have a ticket with every number the reverse of the winning numbers.

Any of those would be equally "aw shucks" worthy.

It depends on what phenomena we are framing here. If it is to get 1 less than drawn numbers on all the numbers, it is same odds as winning.

TheR0CK: It was purchased 2mins AFTER the numbers were drawn. Of course it is fake.

It was purchased on the 20th for a drawing on the 21st.

That being said, he missed every single number. I do that damn near every time I get a lotto ticket.

/ Yes, I know it's one off on every one.

2011-10-24 01:09:19 PM
I know it's been (implicitly) said, but I'll say it anyway:

Missed it by that much.

But if it's to get every number within +/- 1, it's 2^7 higher than the odds of winning, right?

BUT I HAVENT GOTTEN FIRED FROM MY JOB YET

I know this is a fake.
I have NOT been to europe since they got an EU lottery.
