Is the dumbass tag in the parking lot subby?

One suspect was described as a black man, 30 to 40, 5-feet, 5-inches tall, about 200 pounds, wearing a black hat and brown suit. The other was described as a black man, also 30 to 40, 6-feet tall, about 200 pounds, wearing a black T-shirt and dark colored jeans.

That narrows it down to about a million people....in California alone. Should be no problem finding them.

It was unclear what prompted him to do so since he spoke limited English, police added.

Probably went something like this: "We'll trade you this mystery object wrapped in a dirty blanket if you empty your bank accounts for us. Do we look untrustworthy to you?" and he's too embarassed to admit it.

Stupid people are stupid. No pity for you.

Just how farking stupid can a person be?

....yeah but the african prayer cloth will make a cool placemat or hankerchief, and he'll have a funny story to tell at parties.

\so he's got that going for him

People still fall for this stuff? Damn.

I need to start selling plywood TVs and retire.

FTFA: The men proceeded to tell him that they had a "prayer cloth" with $100,000 in cash wrapped in it, and were flying to Africa the next day. The suspects then told the victim that they would give him half the cash in exchange for a ride to a bank for them to deposit the money.

Wow, cabs must be outrageous in Vallejo. What a farking idiot.

From Vallejo also.

Is Vallejo vying for its own tag?

They take advantage of people's greedy nature.

Guy thought he was going to make $50k tax free, and probably thought he was scamming them - "what a bunch of idiots! I give them a few thousand in cash and some gold coins and they give me $50k! Suckers!"

Much easier to con a dishonest person.

What did the dumbass not won a gun? I mean seriously you take them to your house, make them wait in the garage, you get your gun, you hold them at gun point until they show you what is in the blanket.

Then if it really is 100,000 US dollars you shoot them dead and take their money. If it is not 100,000 US dollars you just shoot them dead and sell their bodies on the black market.

/I'm sure there's plenty of back-slapping going on as well

What really bugs me about this is that it totally ruins things for legitimate $100,000-wrapped-in-a-prayer-blanket-in-a-Home-Depot-parking-lot deals.

Now I'm going to have a bunch of smartmouths telling me "Hey, this better not be a scam like that one I heard about in California..." every time I try to make an honest living transporting my prayer blankets and cash to the airport.

2011-10-24 01:22:44 PM
It's like one of Aesop's fables where the moral is 'Don't trust black people'.

Unless it's girl scouts selling cookies at the front door, anyone offering you anything in a parking lot is part of a scam. And even then, $5 is a lot to pay for cookies.

CSB: Had a guy try to pull the "we've got these extra thousand dollar speakers left from an install job, we'll sell them to you for a hundred" scam in a parking lot once. "Oh cool, can I see one?" I asked. The guy handed it to me (dumbass). I do an ostentatiously bad job of taking it, and let it fall to the ground. "No thank you, I don't think I want these," I tell the guy politely, staring down at the cracked speaker, "They look broken to me." Walked away from the indignant jabbering--something about calling the cops. Yeah, you do that buddy, let me know how it works out for you.

How can someone this stupid possibly have so money in a bank account?

2011-10-24 01:24:14 PM
Most scams work by taking advantage of your own greed and/or thrift.

Stop trying to get something for nothing and you won't be scammed.

It's really difficult to cheat an honest man. Perhaps he got his money from scamming. Seems too stupid to get it legitimately.

If you buy something from a parking lot... LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE BUYING BEFORE YOU BUY IT (or you know, don't buy shiat in a parking lot).

If they won't let you, walk away.

/To think, if I didn't have a conscience, how much money I could rip off from the idiots in this country.

rev. dave: They take advantage of people's greedy nature.

Yep. I'd feel sorry if the guy was dumb. I feel a little sorry for people whose greed is taken advantage of--since we're all human and we all could fall victim to it in one way or another--but not as bad as I'd feel if the guy were developmentally disabled or something. I had some close family members lose around $100k in what turned out to be a really well-orchestrated ponzi scheme. I say "well-orchestrated" because they had some institutional investors fooled, which makes attracting others much easier.
