So America 20 years ago?

I've always wondered if our cars got bigger because we got bigger or if we got bigger because our cars got bigger.

You mean... they actually make cars that work all the time now? They must not be using Lucas as a supplier anymore. How Continental of them.

This must apply to the UK, since 1950s American cars were behemoths. A six-foot man could stretch out across the bench seats of my parent's old car, and it weighed enough to have made a great fresh-asphalt tamper on today's roads.

So they're designing cars to fit Jezza?

Europe is like the United States younger, dumber brother. They mock us, then in 10-15 years when they grow up, they become us.

Before: 'Hahaha! Fat Americans!'
Soon: 'Doh, We're Fat too'

So, the Ford Prefect was an actual car. I consider that as satisfying my "learn something new everyday" quotient for the day.

From the comments: People are fatter because of their diets. E951 makes people fatter, daft as it sounds. Introduced widespread in '95. Think back to the early 90's there was maybe less than half the fatsos that we have now. Search online for 'aspartame makes you fatter' - I dare you!

Yes, because obesity wasn't an issue until everybody started consuming diet and lite foods/drinks 16 years ago...

Yeah, history fail. America is Europe's younger, fatter brother.

Am I the only one who has the sense to realize that people will have less motivation to lose weight as long as manufacturers keep redesigning their product to adapt to the larger size of their customers instead of leaving their product the way it is?

Yes, because all it takes is one company to accommodate fat people to make everybody else fall into line or get crushed by the competition.

No, but you probably are the only one who doesn't realize that if a manufacturer doesn't adapt, they lose market share to those who will.
