I'll be busy being my kiddo's soccer coach during the first part of the game tonight, so I'll get this in early:

Let's Go, Rangers!

It's amazing that the world series almost always runs seven games, thus guaranteeing maximum advertising reveue. I just can't imagine how this could happen. What are the odds?

I know, it's like they've got the two best teams in the MLB playing and neither one likes to lose.

3 of the last 16 world series have gone to 7 games. So maybe around 3/16?

It hasn't gone to 7 since '02. And only has gone to 7 three time since the strike, and there have been five sweeps in that time.

So what are you talking about?

Dutch was two hits from Sandy Koufax immortality last night. Wash would have left him in if he was still dealing for a no hitter at that point in the 9th. Alas, I'll take the win.....

Quite simply, a gem. Last WS complete game shutout goes all the way back to Jack Morris....so what you saw last night was as rare as it gets.

I decided to watch the game stress free...did not log in to Fark or any of my other chat rooms, went to bed at 7:00 and watched the game from the safety and quiet of my lair. It was just what the doctor ordered. If space cowboy Wilson can give 5 good innings tonight, I like the Rangers chances going back to St. Louis up 3-2 and Cobra going in game 6.

That was the last AL complete game shut out. Josh Beckett threw one for the Marlins in Game 6 in 2003

But yeah, he pitched one hell of a game

That was great pitching last night. Can Wilson follow with a similar outing? He's 1-5 in the post-season.
Chris Carter is 8-2.

Yeah, but all he does is catch touchdown passes.

CJ Wilson is the most frightening pitcher in MLB: whenever Wilson is pitching, he's scary. If he's on, he's scary good. If he isn't, he's scary bad. Let's hope for good CJ tonight.

About the same as the odds on the Cardinals winning the series, back in August, 999 to 1.

Really, not supposed to have a chance? With the best player of the past decade on the team and multiple WS appearances under the current regime? The only people not giving the Cardinals a chance are morons.

Nolan Ryan pitching with the other arm and without a 100 mph fastball. He reminds me more of Charlie Hough, where results are concerned. I wonder if someone could teach CJ the knuckler?

I heard some yutz on sports radio say that a single pitching sub of LaRussa's in game 2 that led to a barely-missed RBI grounder was the worst possible decision that certainly cost them the series. Of course, this is the same sport in which Cubs fans have a city-wide "shoot on sight" order for a life-long Cubs fan that caught a foul ball in the middle of a non-clinching game.

Who keeps green lighting these "FAIL" headlines, anyhow? The Texas pitcher had a career-defining game of finesse and control.

factoryconnection: I heard some yutz on sports radio say that a single pitching sub of LaRussa's in game 2 that led to a barely-missed RBI grounder was the worst possible decision that certainly cost them the series.

Hm? The Rangers didn't have any RBI grounders of LaRussa's pitchers in game 2; they scored both their runs on sac flies. (On the other hand, one pitching change by LaRussa did lead to an RBI for his own team, namely when Allen Craig hit for Jaime Garcia, so that seemed to work out pretty well.)

But in any event....

factoryconnection: Who keeps green lighting these "FAIL" headlines, anyhow? The Texas pitcher had a career-defining game of finesse and control.

This. Seriously, losing one game to even the series at 2-2 gets a "FAIL" headline?

I mean *off* LaRussa's pitchers, not "of".

not to mention, if you look at a picture of it, everyone else was leaning over trying to catch the ball too; it was bartman's bad luck that he happened to be the one to do it... what a bunch of lousy hypocrites... by the way, if your team's success is so tenuous as to depend on a single play like that, your team sucks...

Indeed. How dare the Cardinals lose a game on the road against a pitcher throwing the game of his life.

You are if you only have 2 good pitchers, and one is out for the season. We are lucky our relievers have started playing above their skill level.

Super Chronic: The Rangers didn't have any RBI grounders

Whoops, my bad memory... I think the play to which they were referring was the setup to get the second runner on before the two sac flies. But you got the point: the people in the "please keep watching SportsCenter for the 5th repeat cycle" industry are assholes.

Thanks for that. Appreciated the mini-rant on Michael Young, with which I agree completely. I'm sick of the guy. I've read interviews with him and it's pretty clear he fancies himself as one of the great superstars of the game today. He even complained about walking outside during road trips and not having fans instantly recognize him. (And I have to admit, if I stepped outside next week and Michael Young walked right past me with no warning or fanfare, I'd probably have no idea.) Baseball will be better off when the guy finally just disappears. Although, five years later, we'll have to hear him cry when he gets less than 5% of the HOF vote.

It was good to see Dirk Holland and not Derp Holland. That guy is gonna be crazy good in a few years and once he finishes puberty.

Go Rangers!
