Regular candy corn is fine- not my favorite, but it's OK.
The pumpkins are all of the things that people don't like about candy corn, with none of the things that people do like.

Their sole redeeming feature is that they look like little pumpkins, but even that is just a ruse. You look at them and think "awww a miniature pumpkin, how cute!" and pop one in your mouth, and it turns out to be just a chunk of library paste mixed with corn syrup, but it's too big to swallow in a single gulp (or spit out discretely into a napkin), so you end up stuck with it, forced to chew it up into smaller, more manageable pieces and finally choke it down. Then you vow never to touch one again.

But by next year, you have blocked the awful memory from your mind, and sure enough, you visit your aunt or an elderly neighbor and see a tray full of them and think "awww a miniature pumpkin, how cute!"
