And now there is a push on to allow McDonald's to take food stamps.

Seeing as how most Americans can only afford to eat from the Dollar Menu, this does not surprise me ...

Let's see who the Federal Reserve has been subsidizing.

I would not be surprised one bit if McDonalds, to the exclusion of other fast-food chains, is receiving a stealth federal subsidy to shield its profits from the growth of the money supply.

Last I heard, there was a war on poverty. The shorter poor people's lives are, the less poverty there will be. Take into account that poor people loooove McDonalds, and you have a win/win.

No kidding. Its one of the 'over-perform during recession' stocks, like Walmart. When people get poor, they buy stuff that poor people use. These companies see a huge surge during recessions.

McDonald's can also be used as the shining example that an adjusted CPI works.
The current adjustment for debate? Substitution should be allowed from more expensive food types to less expensive food types to keep the CPI number down. Well, at least Social Security recipients haven't been told they should expect to afford only cat food... yet.

Mmm... Sawdust.

How can anyone eat that garbage? They have nothing worthwhile or edible on their menu.

2011-10-23 04:26:39 PM
Meanwhile, they're selling large Angus Meals for $5 while Taco Bell changed the name (not not the content, or the size) of their Grilled Stuffed Burrito to the XXL whatever and jacked the price to five bucks, and the rest of their menu has similarly skyrocketed in price.

...yeah, Taco Bell gets no more of my money. When I was younger, I'd go there all the time because my girlfriend and I could get more than enough food for the both of us for under $8. Now food for two is pushing $20, and I can get more from McD's for far less.

/Burger King is dead to me

Probably the convenience and price factor in a dumpy economy

On the way home from work (assuming one would have a job), or down the street from one's residence--there's sure to be a McDonald's. You could buy an unsatisfying, but quick meal for $3 or so. Under that pretext, I'd go so far as to argue that McD's is the modern rutabaga gruel from the era of the Great Depression.

/Personally, I'd never eat there

Went to my local McD's the other night...one white woman working the counter and drive through, looking miserable...chatter of about 3 mexicans in the back running the shop. Illegals don't pay taxes, don't contribute to our roads, system, etc. or anything else. All they do is take away our jobs while rich asshats pocket the profits.

Walmart hasn't been doing too well this recession, so it's not just inferior goods, it isn't even good enough to qualify for that these days.

People keep coming back to heroin too, but that doesn't mean its a worthwhile item to spend your time/money on.

Fast food is garbage, and worse, many of the people who eat it don't even need the fast part. You can get better for less at a decent coney. Or, you know, don't be retarded and cook your own.

You can get a 520 calorie can of hormel chili for a buck. Mix in a little cheese and some v8 hot and spicy. Bam, twice as healthy and half the price of Mcgarbage. Or you can cook and freeze a couple gallons of your own recipe, with quality ingredients, for the same price.
