Class act. As much as I'd love him on my team, Albert needs to stay in St Louis.

/And St Louis need to pay him.

I just bet $100 at 1.7 to one on tomorrows game. Damn those are good odds given today's results.

Good point. I'm old enough to remember when Reggie did that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he also hit a home run in his first at bat in the next game?

Considering Jackson hit his three in the series-clinching game, no.

You're right, as long as you ignore OBP, SLG, OPS, OPS+, WAR, DWAR, or any other measurable statistic. You take the guy with 2597 strikeouts but has a catchy nickname like Mr. October. I'll go with the guy that produces.

Meanwhile, it's totally cool that Reggie was amphetamined up all the time, like the rest of the league.

whatever you say homer, pujols is not even the best 1B of his era. sure he can steroid jerk some home runs, and the ocassional double. sure he is a hall of famer, he just isn't as great as you make him out to be.

So who is?

He's lead the league in OPS and slugging 3 times, he's got a career OBP over 420, career AVG over 325, he walks more than he strikes out, and he's a damn good defender.. I'd like to know who is a better 1B in his era.. It isn't Teixiera, it isn't Jim Thome, it isn't.. well.. anyone I can think of. Maybe you're suggesting Adrian Gonzalez?

Also, I remember after Reggie hit his third and last home run that night, he nonchalantly tossed his bat behind his back as if to say, "Yeah, I knew that was going to happen."

Still, kudos to Pujols.

Not taking anything away from Albert Pujols. Reggie Jackson was just one of those people who transcended the game. In the 1970's, baseball was "America's game." You will get no argument from me on Reggie Jackson's numbers. He was just one of those larger than life personalities, and all the drama that went along with it. He was on great teams with great talent, but America was mesmerized with Reggie (and Billy Martin).

And achieved that status with only TWIB and a Saturday afternoon national televised game.

Ya know Reggie loves him some Reggie, but even Reggie would laugh at the concept of Reggie being more Reggimpressive than Albert Pujols. Reggie was a 1 trick pony.

/ Also hate the cardinals and Im nearly 100 percent sure hes on the LaRussa Juice, but he is still better than reggie.

What_Would_Jimi_Do: he is no babe or reggie. he is awesome but.

reggie is no Ruth, Pujols is closer to Ruth and Reggie was. People tend to forget what an absolute beast of a hitter Ruth was, when you lead the league in batting average, on base percentage and slugging percentage in the same seasonEs, you get pitchers breaking out in hives. Especially when you're also leading the league in walks. Put it this way, Ruth retired with over twice as many hits as he had strikeouts. Jackson retired with more strikeouts than hits. So far, Pujols has almost three times as many hits as strikeouts, and he's got a career .328 average. Jackson's career average? .262.
