It's cheaper to just get a bag of mini marshmallows and leave them out to petrify for a week or so.

Remember to keep plenty of insulin on hand.

But they don't look like hearts, stars, and horseshoes, clovers and blue moons, pots of gold and rainbows, and the red balloons

I'm really surprised Lucky Charms hasn't given up and simply sold the marshmallows. That cereal is a joke. You'd get more nutrition by eating the actual box.

Pretty much my thoughts too, reading the article. You'd think they'd make money doing that, selling the stuff in the snack aisle even.

I know I'm weird, but I don't like the marshmallows, I do kinda like the slightly sweet cereal. It's kinda like "Alpha-Bits" isn't it?

I should get together with the guy in the article, he can eat all the marshmallows and let me have the cereal.

This 3D PRINTED article 3D PRINTED was a 3D PRINTED waste of 3D PRINTED cyberspace and I 3D PRINTED want my 3D PRINTED time back 3D PRINTED.

Basically you can make the same sifter with a cup and drill bit. It's not even clever. I mean shaped holes that prevent some things from passing while allowing others? That's literally a baby's toy. But just 3D print your incredible unoriginal idea and you too can enjoy an article with no content seemingly written by a high school undergrad with a 3D PRINTED hard on for 3D printers.

Totally going to print this and I don't even like Lucky Charms. I prefer Captain Crunch because I enjoy lacerating the roof of my mouth!

I thought I was the only person who at all the cereal then the marshmallows.

/don't eat cereal anymore though.

Mall of America previously had a store that sold boxes of Lucky Charms with only Marshmallows. It... was... AWESOME! This is a cool gadget though I've moved on to the vastly superior Marshmallow Mateys by Malt-O-Meal.

1. Google "marbits."
2. Buy marbits.
3. Eat marbits.

That seems like an awful lot of work to get rid of those nasty little marshmallows.

It's tiresome, yes. For about the same 1300$ that scam artist scumbag wants for his piece of crap rickety Makerbot, you can get a QUARTER TON OF METAL machine tool that you can hand down the generations.

But saying "anyone with access to a milling machine can make holes" just doesn't get the little geek wieners stiff, it seems.

Shipping might be an issue....

Right now, I concoct a 50/50 mix of rice krispies, and fruity pebbles.

The rice krispies are basically tasteless by themselves, and fruity pebbles alone are way too sugary, this mixture gives a good even flavour.

/it also makes awesome rice krispies treats.

No, I'm with you. The cereal pieces are actually very nice on their own -- oaty, slightly sweet -- but compared to the marshmallows they're all but tasteless.

lordargent: flavour.

Why can't the English let it go.

You've lost the empire, changed your accent, and have raped your monarchy's ability to do anything cool like the Tudors used to. You've lost the Commonwealth and everything it stood for. It's time to retire the superfluous u that was its representative.

Considering that Captain Crunch has been selling that "oops all berries" stuff for years now, I'm also surprised that Lucky Charms hasn't done the same. I wonder if there is an actual regulation about putting a bunch of marshmallows in a box and selling it as "cereal" that is stopping them from doing it.

As long as we're going to too much trouble to solve problems that don't really need solving...for this problem I'm picturing a slow releasing hopper feeding onto a conveyer belt to pass all the pieces under a camera connected to a computer controlling a high speed flexpicker that separates the cereal bits so the marshmallows can feed into a collection bin. I'm sure someone will do this if it hasn't been done already.

I was a fan of three cereals as a kid.

By order of awesomeness

1) Coco Pebbles
2) Frosted Flakes
3) Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but only after it stayed in the bowl for 20 minutes and got really soggy. Mmm..

Those fruity cereals like Trix and Berry Berry Kix tasted like AIDS.

2011-10-23 01:51:29 AM
Man, I like Kix. As a snack. As in, a decadent snack because that shiat is expensive.

But yeah, I like the slightly sweet but not too sweet cereal. Most US junk food is just way over the top too sweet for me to even consider it.

/I like coffee cake and tea bread too

I happen to like the cereal pieces.

2011-10-23 01:58:43 AM
in a landscape: I was a fan of three cereals as a kid.

During one time in the US as a small child my parents actually signed me up for some cereal taste-testing scheme, no doubt because they would get paid.

The cereal in question was what is now "Captain Crunch." The test involved, they would send tiny unmarked boxes of cereal to the house, the kid eats both, and votes. But the the "brand X" was plain oat cereal (think: Cheerios) which was my favorite food evar at the time, so I voted it down :)

I just don't like overly sweet cereal. Though I never eat cereal for breakfast anyway, it's always a snack, but still I like the slightly sweet stuff. Either the plain Malt-O-Meal variety of "Cheerios" (which I prefer to actual Cheerios) or Kix, or maybe the Alpha-Bits.

/breakfast is either fish and rice, or eggs and bacon

the current consumer 3d printers are like first generation inkjet/bubblejet printers. they work. they are low resolution. they are slow.
the 2nd and 3rd generation printers will be cheaper, faster, higher rez, blah blah blah

if you need better quality, you go with a professional service. just like in the printing world.

The marshmallows are much lighter than the cereal pieces, wouldnt even need a camera or computer control, would just need a well calibrated air stream. Cereal pieces fly on by and the marshmallows get puffed a little further ont another line.

Or you just buy the bulk bags of just marshmallows that somebody linked upthread.

Marshmallows are squishier than cereal. Crush it all under rollers and sift the crumbs through a grate.

Even as a kind I detested marshmallows so I never asked my parents for any cereal that contained such. It also helps that the "marshmallows" in cereal are even more disgusting than regular marshmallows.

I was pretty much a Chex, Shredded Wheat and Honey Nut Cheerios kinda kid. It doesn't matter that they're not sugary right out of the box when you have a bowl of sugar and or honey in the kitchen to knock it up a notch.

Download a car? If I could get away with it, I'd steal ALL the cars and put the big 3 in the red forever doing it as punishments for the bailouts.

America is for American people. Corporations and the people who profit from them do not DESERVE any money at all. They must EARN every penny. It's the workers who should have received the bailout funds for things like the corporation putting them in escrow or other corporate cocksuckin' tricks. The CEO and executives don't even deserve paychecks if the company founders.

Lucky Charms jumped the shark when they added purple horseshoes. When I was a kid, we just had pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, and green clovers. The addition of blue diamonds was a plus. I think Alpha-bits was pretty much the same without the marshmallow bits.

Honeycomb always had the coolest prizes in the boxes, but DAYUM that was nasty cereal.

The heavier, non-marshmallow bits have more density. Run the cereal through a centrifuge and the lighter, mallowed pieces will remain while the other material is separated out.

Minus the actual tools to work the material, of course. Also minus the skills required to actually fabricate the desired parts since using such a machine requires skill... and time.

The Makerbot is not top of the line when it comes to 3D printers but as things go, if you do a small but nontrivial amount of prototyping and hobby work, it's a decent investment. I've had opportunity to do both, and making a 3D model and printing it requires a lot less skill and time than designing a 3D part and machining it.

And you're not going to do this kind of stuff^ on a lathe no matter how much you spend on it.
