We're not talking Sofia Coppola in The Godfather 3. This is Kim Kardashian in a Tyler Perry movie. That plump slutty ass will at least provide more eye candy than would have already been in this inevitable shiat pile of a movie.

The Kardashian sisters are eye candy. They just don't have a brain. Except maybe Khloe. Maybe. They're the type of women who would never have to work a day in their life -- like that wannabe Gucci broad who tried to kill her husband, or that Mexican cartel womb who gave birth in Cali recently.

And yet, they want to be known as business women, instead of golddiggers. Weirdness.

I don't like the Kardashians -- except maybe Khloe -- but at least they look like women, instead of dudes with long hair.

I don't like that Kim injects her ass and destroyed her face through too much plastic surgery, or that she lied about her first husband abusing her (allegedly), or that she married Kris for ratings. But she's no Gay Male Fantasy Boy With A Pussy. She looks like a woman.

Nah, they aren't crimes against vision until after the botox, plastic surgery, and whore-makeup classes. If you look at the teenage sister, she's moderately pretty and might turn out quite nice looking if she avoids the knife/needle/slutiversity.

Yeah. But without his fans, and his being able to touch a nerve which was being ignored by Mainstream Hollywood, is how he got into movies and tv.

Tyler has issues............... but he's trying to address an issue by putting the product out there. He found his niche. Just like the "Hangover' dudes have. How many threads try to turn the 'Hangover' dudes into laughingstocks? Know what I mean?

I guess the white version would be Larry the Cable Guy when it comes to folks talking shiat about the man, and the culture, and the niche he serves with his comedy. But I don't think even Larry is the focus of as much outrage as Perry.

I don't like Tyler's schtick; but I'm not going to damn him or dismiss him. I know what he's trying to do. Until someone can serve that niche better than Tyler, maybe folks should fall back, you know?

I have no choice but to dismiss him. But I do have the courtesy to give my reasons:

1. Not funny, never was.
2. Dressing up as an old/fat woman (see #1)
3. Putting his name in front of every/anything he's ever been connected with.

/ I doubt that "John Belushi's Animal House, Starring John Belushi (a John Belushi production)" would have had quite the same cultural impact.

Tyler Perry, Spike Lee, John Singleton, it doesn't matter.

I wasn't knocking Tyler Perry's success, I was explaining to someone who lamented his involvement in theater that Tyler Perry got his start in theater. Thus, the irony of his post.

I have no idea who the "Hangover dudes" are. The people that made the movie? The actors? A Jew, an Episcopalian, and a fat bearded Greek? They're a punchline to a joke they haven't set up yet.

Tyler Perry served up entertainment for poor African-Americans across the South for most of the 90's-early 2000's with cheap, affordable theater plays that people enjoyed regardless of critical reception. He carried that success into his own movies, and then his own TV shows. He caters to an ignored market, and he caters to it fiercely - refusing to "cross over" into more mainstream fare to earn more money. He's earning plenty of money staying with the market he's targeted all along. If you watch his movies or read his plays, Tyler Perry has a very specific audience in mind: old black women and young black women.

Yeah, he's clunky, but he's honest. The best "from the random white guy" description I can give him is that he's a black Kevin Smith, except he's turned his success into a 100 million dollar franchise instead of smoking pot in Hollywood and getting fatter like Smith has. Tyler Perry has really done something extraordinary, and no one seems to write about that. Instead, they like to write about how black people like stupid movies.

I'm just waiting for his production company to stumble onto the next great director. Eventually someone is going to come along who is 100 times better than Perry, but he's going to get a shot because of the shlock Perry put out.

Refusing to cross over for more money implies two things.

1. He has enough talent for something other than blacksploitation.

2. He isn't making obscene money. He owns his own island.

he annoys me, but he amassed his wealth honestly and didn't hurt anyone in the process, so Meh.

I already knew that, but you make a good point. He's made his money honestly and his product isn't crap to the people who are paying for it. He is wildly successful. He's set up a production company in the South and he films most of his work there.

I didn't mean to imply he didn't sell out - he found a new market and worked it so there was no "sell out" necessary. He's a brilliant businessman. Singleton and Lee had to work in what is arguably a "white peoples market", but Perry just made his own market. For that alone the man is not only a genius, but probably more effective in advancing black culture in the US than anyone in the past 20 years.

Well, as stated above, Perry is all there is. African-Americans are a niche audience starving for some cinema representing their perspective. Until Hollywood maybe realizes "Hey Black people have money too!!!" this will continue. It shouldn't be that surprising given that the industry was surprised that Bridemaids was a success because they just knew women preferred cliched, belabored romance to actually laughing and enjoying themselves.
