What did everyone think they meant by "support the troops"? The military is for fighting, therefor support them by putting them into fights.

"He needs to be working with the commanders on a timetable to remove those troops, but obviously not telling the bad guys when it's going to happen," he added.

um...actually, if I were a bad guy i'd tell all my fellow bad guys to STFU, bunker down and wait for the US to leave. If anything, Obama just made things SAFER for US troops.

of course after the US troops are gone, that's when I'd tell my fellow bad guys to get out of their bunkers and start a ruckus.

Do we have an over/under yet on an Iraqi civil war?

If Perry is upset about the troops pulling out, he can go over there and lead them himself. He should take point on every patrol.

My niece can haz Xmas at home this year!! And Gov. Perry can EABOD or DIAF.

Imaging the headlines.

"Governor Perry tragically died this week in a fire in his pre-debate trailer. Debate organizer say they called out to Perry and attempted to free him, but he was determined to finish the bowl."

The GOP candidates jumping on this has been one of the most laughable things I've ever seen.

That people, on this very site, have defended and/or reaffirmed their support of these nitwits is just mindboggling.

2011-10-22 08:12:14 PM

The Republicans will take anything Obama does and spin it in a bad light. Obama could find the cure for cancer and the Republicans would complain that he is causing doctors and cancer researchers to lose their jobs and is hurting the Healthcare Insurance Industry.

The Republicans suck because they just don't have any ideas. They're obstructionist and whiners.

He's got a point. If the troops won't save a pretzel for the gas jets, who will?

2011-10-22 08:13:14 PM
Since these guys are all so opposed to the timetable for withdrawal, it should be easy to find footage of them criticizing President Bush when he set the schedule...right?

ObamaSucks882 over at the Barack Obama Sucks forums has calculated that 3,000 troops will die on American soil every year unless we have troops stationed in Iraq. Almost immediately, Al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein (who was never actually killed, the Iraqi people executed a cardboard cutout of Hussein) will almost immediately begin launching attacks on Miami, Savannah, Charleston, and other cities on the Southeastern seaboard. Sharia Law will probably get to Atlanta within six months. Of course, Obama has nothing to worry about because he already subscribes to Sharia Law. For the rest of the country, danger awaits and that danger will get our troops killed by the thousands. That is the world we live in now: The world where Barack Obama is bad at everything he does and even worse at being President. It's the sad truth.

Mike, FFS, cut it out. You're fairly a decent guy on the non-Politics tabs but posting this shtick thread-in and thread-out here does no good. Leave the trolling to the actual trolls, the people who are paid to do so and those that approve trolling headlines. Either that or turn into a performance artiste like CDP. This is getting tiresome.

The GOP candidates are really trying to out-stupid each other, aren't they?

2011-10-22 08:28:03 PM
Perry, as a Republican, is constitutionally required to criticize everything Obama does, including how many hours he sleeps, what he had for dinner and how his daughters are being raised.

I also like him saying he was "commander in chief" of his Air Force unit. Really? Back when he was in the USAF, the Commander in Chief would have been, who, Reagan, Bush I, Clinton? Certainly not Rick Perry.

2011-10-22 08:34:46 PM
My guess is that he recently saw (or read): We Were Soldiers Once And Young. Because what he is saying is true for a certain situation. A small force that is being evacuated by air in more than one go is in a bad position. They have to balance reduced manpower/firepower while the enemy can bide their time until the opposing forces have dwindled to the point they can no longer maintain a proper perimeter and go in for the kill.

That said, what he is saying is extraordinarily stupid. Does he have any clue how many men we have in Iraq? This isn't a truckload of people. This isn't a busload of people. This isn't even a battleship of people. We are withdrawing, assuming ALL of them are withdrawn, 40 thousand people (give or take for civilian contractors also withdrawn, but I don't have the numbers on them). 40 Thousand.

Of course, it will have to be staggered, but that's not the bloody point. How many Iraqi rebels can come after a force which, I am all but certain will have at least some Iraqi soldiers to guard the final withdrawal. Even if 90% of the troops are withdrawn, that'd be 4000 people. Does he honestly think they'd be attacked on an even setting? Does he think any terrorists in the area would have the resources or manpower to go up against a force like that? We would need to have the Iraqi military turn on us to do that sort of thing. And I'm not saying that is wholly impossible, but it's bloody unlikely.

The worst case scenario is that troops leaving on planes are hit by a rocket of some sort, or some sort of terrorist runs into one of the last planes out with an explosive vest on.

Perry, an Air Force veteran who noted that he was "commander in chief of a fairly substantial group of individuals in the National Guard of Texas," called Obama's decision "bad public policy" and "bad tactics."

It's a little grammar nazish, but you'd think that someone touting his military experience would know the difference between tactics and strategy.

Yeah, we heard this recycled talking point back in 2006.

I think Perry's scenario is that since they know when the troops are leaving, there's going to be some kind of massed attack to kill them all at once BEFORE they can escape. "Holy Allah, they're getting away! Kill them before they leave like we've been trying to get them to do for the last 9 years!"

I got a kick out of that. If that sentence was typed by a random farker, there would be no less than 20 "Marine Core" jokes by now.

The last time I checked, the American military wasn't made up of a bunch of pussies and pushovers. It's not like they aren't armed or have the world most effective air power....oh wait...they do.

Sorry Perry but even Obama's campaign team has recognized that Romney is the only real candidate. You're just taking up space at this point.

"The last thing you want to do is put those men and women's lives in peril and I think that's what the president's done by making a political statement to his base that he's going to be out of Iraq by a date certain," Perry said.

How the fark does he think withdrawal should be handled?

We should pack up the trucks and just disappear in the middle of a random night without telling anyone? I'm sure that wouldn't cause a sudden power vacuum resulting in chaos and violence at all.

2011-10-22 08:49:57 PM
I wanna see Perry lose to Romney because it would be nice to see a retard not get what he wants.

please go hunting with fmr. Vice-President Cheney. It will shore up your support with the base.
