(Onion AV Club)   Tim Burton designs balloon for Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It looks uncomfortably similar to the Joker's poison gas balloon in 1989's "Batman"   (avclub.com ) divider line

So in the parade it will be over inflated, go in random direction tangents, and lose all of its air near the end?

Looks like a Character from either the Corpse Bride or Nightmare Before Christmas.

Also the article said it was suppose to be gothic. Doesn't really look very gothic to me.

I did not care for Burton's Batman. The 2 most recent Batman movies are far superior.

Tim Burton designs something that looks like something Tim Burton would design! Alert the press!

It's got a special place in my heart. My dad took me across Phoenix the weekend after I got over chicken pox. Does it have its cheesy moments? HOOO BOY does it. That doesn't mean it's bad.

I can't find a picture of it, but I think balloon from the movie was inspired by the poison gas balloon in Miller's Dark Knight Returns.

I didn't realize this was from the AV Club until I got to the very end of the article, which made it even funnier. Nice going.

I would have thought it was a giant black and white swirly thing that played Danny Elfman themes and Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp would be riding atop acting strange whilst bugging out their eyes.

Yep, awesome back in the day but doesn't really hold up unfortunately. Especially that Prince Batdance crap. Ugh.

This is rather trivial as a matter of dispute but is the "SCARY" tag really appropriate here? This is because I've never really found most of Burton's work that scary (and, for the record, I've like a lot of what he's done). Burton is often said to be "dark" but I don't think that assessment is entirely accurate. That's because I think, with the exception of Sweeney Todd and (maybe) Sleepy Hollow, he's mostly "lite dark" (or "dark lite" if you prefer). The storylines may seem ghoulish on the surface but they're really no more disturbing than a Halloween decoraction. Often there's just too much whimsy for them to be truly dark.

"Hold up" nothing. The Batdance was crap at the time it came out.

I'd be more concerned about a Michael Bay balloon design.

Now all we need is somebody with a weird jet to cut the lines. Or a big pair of scissors. Either would make me happy.

I have a feeling we kinda lucked out that Mr. Burton decided to go in to art rather than say politics.

Nah, just nitpicking. The "WEIRD" tag would've worked better here.

Also, I was trying (and failing) to start a discussion on what it means when a movie is called "dark".

/Sorry

Ho-ho-holy crap fark, only one mention of Nightmare Before Christmas?

Alright allow me,

It's ain't a real Tim Burton Thanksgiving Day Parade until it end with Jack Skellington instead of Santa driving the sleigh at the end.
