FTA - A FRIENDLY great Dane

Is there any other find of Great Dane?

I will take them both.

Even a blind dog sniffs some nuts once in a while

If I am ever fortunate enough to have a house with some land, I know that my wife and I will be adopting dogs in need like this frequently. I will probably spend my days building kennels and playing with all the pooches.

The wife will be taking care of vegetable garden and I will be home-brewing in the basement.

I can dream, can't I??

Can I live next door to you? My husband will help with the brewing, I will help with the doggies.

KIND

Is there any other KIND of Great Dane.

Sheesh, preview doesn't work if you don't preview.

A coworker just lost one of his two dogs. The surviving one is deaf and depended on the other one to be her ears.

Poor doggie. She's apparently getting used to being alone now, but for the first several nights she'd wake up every 45 minutes, look around, and start crying. Hearing a dog cry is a very sad thing.

Shoot, If I was able to buy a place with enough land, I would let you guys build a house on it. I am generous like that.

If they don't find any takers, I'd be happy to adopt both of them. I'm kind of far away here in SF, but if they need me, I'm available.

what a chick magnet they would make.and you wouldn't have to sort through many cat loving crazy biatches either who say they love all animals. walk the dogs in the public park and when the gals start coming up [and they will] toss the ones that say they have a cat.

Trolls thrive on attention. I try to resist the temptation to give it to them.

That said, I wish I could take the doggies in myself. I'm a soft touch when it comes to dogs in hard luck.

If I ever won the lottery, I'd buy a farm and turn it into a disabled/unwanted/unadoptable etc. animal sanctuary. I'd install a couple of swimming pools for dogs - 1 therapeutic and 1 for fun. I'd also give them a nice field where they could dig dirt to their hearts content. For the kitties, they'd be free to lounge in the catnip conservatory and milk bar.

For the most part Great Danes are friendly dogs, but I used to have a neighbor with a Great Dane that was a nipper. God help you if you walked too near her and weren't part of the family. She'd nip you just hard enough to break the skin, usually just behind the knee.

Needless to say I didn't visit my neighbor very often.

Holy coke, I don't like dogs at all, but that's a farkup of a condition.

Per Wikipedia, symptoms are: redness and pain around the eye, sensitivity to light and wind, sagging skin around the eye epiphora decreased vision, especially if the cornea is damaged. Also, In human cases, this condition is most common to people over 60 years of age.

Apart from lost of any of my fingers or the entire hand, the only thing I fear most is losing my sight. Remember these symptoms, farkers. It just might save your sight.

My 16 year old Border Collie mix, Teddy, passed away in May. Georgie, the Basset mix, is 12 and had been with Teddy since she was about 6 months old. Teddy was her alpha and she was lost without him. She grieved so hard it nearly killed all of us. She would sit under the house and howl - it was the most gut-wrenching mournful sound I'd ever heard.

We couldn't stand it. We got her a puppy, a German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix, who is now bigger than Georgie. Georgie still looks for Teddy but she's a lot happier now.

I own a house with land (about 45 acres). All you'll be doing is clearing brush, cutting grass, fixing things around the house, washing pollen and dirt off everything you own repeatedly, cutting grass, cutting up fallen trees, cutting grass, painting every exterior inch of your house repeatedly, washing windows, cutting grass, chasing mice out of the attic, cutting grass, chasing bats out of the basement, cutting grass, killing snakes for your wife, fixing the driveway, and cutting grass. Approximately 0.00002% of your time will be spent building kennels and playing with pooches, and you'll probably have to do it at night.

I leased off almost all of my land to the farmer next door, and it's the best thing I ever did. Unless your house is also your work (i.e., you're a farmer), having a lot of land is a royal pain in the ass.

Or you could, you know, keep a manageable area clear and let the rest of the grass and trees grow / fall naturally. That's what I do at least. And why so much worry about the dust and pollen? If you wanted to live in an anti-histamine laboratory, you could have. You make rural life too hard on yourself.

Gaylord Fister: Why the fark didn't they just euthanize the dog?

Because the dog can still be a companion to someone, providing joy to a person while living a comfortable, happy life. The dog is no longer in any pain, so there is no reason to euthanize this otherwise healthy pet. Euthanizing the dog does not reduce suffering.

Caring for animals who have problems like this helps to build the empathy humans need in order to care for each other, the same empathy that forms the basis for a functioning society. It can be easier to care for an animal with a problem than a person with a problem, as we have the presumption that animals are innocent but humans deserve their lot. If we assume that the life of a less than perfect animal has no value, it does not bode well for our assumptions about the worth of less than perfect human beings.
