Nobody should be outed that doesn't want to be outed. Something to keep in mind is that the gay rights movement has already won - one of the more popular shows for youth and young adults on TV is Glee. Glee - a show so fabulous you shiat glitter after watching it too long. The generational shift is done, everyone under 40 has bigger things to care about then who you love and fark.

It's going to take 15-20 years sure (see: for the old fogies to die off), and yes there should be continued efforts to prevent regression by continuing to reach out to the youth and normalize being gay, bi or trans, but this idea of waging a war of shame is regressive and harmful as it plays into the "us" or "them" split the religious right are actively pushing. The better way to push this is to say "look even you fellows have some gay or bi people among you, it's normal" and continue to proactively position arguments against the trinity of "unnatural, learned and harmful" that forms the cornerstones of the religious right's propaganda against gay and bi folk.

When you insult someone by saying they're a closet gay, you're the homophobe - not them. Why would it matter to you if he's gay? Why do you consider that a derogatory comment at all? I've got a theory about all these conservative politicians who troll for gay sex: they're bi.

Hear me out. A lot of these guys (Craig, Haggard, etc) are married with children, so obviously they are not averse to sex with women. But they are also attracted to men on occasion. Simplest explanation: they're bisexual.

But why the political conservatism and opposition to gay rights? IMO it's because that one common argument for gay rights, that gays didn't choose who to be attracted to, doesn't work on them, because as bisexuals, they do feel attraction to both sexes. And perhaps, because of their families' political conservatism, they made a conscientious choice to ignore their homosexual impulses. Thus, because they think they can make that decision, they believe that other people with homosexual impulses must be able to do that too.
