So both sides are petty and childish about this whole thing, and the kicked out guy is saying they're disorganized. Right.

\sorry, sympathy for either side is very, very tiny at this point
\\still waiting for people to occupy a suburb known for actually having nothing but rich people, seems like that'd make more sense

Why do that when you can make the news by disrupting cities full of normal hard working people?

So one of the hundred or so members rose up to the top and the rest of the group thought he was getting a bit full of himself. They rebelled against him. He responded by shutting down their communication medium and telling the media how unimportant they are.

I give this 3 out of 4 hilarity. 4 if the guy who was kicked out continues the campaign with another group.

Earlier today, I got into an argument with an aging hippie lady who was protesting with Occupy Gainesville, because the second I mentioned the word "Anonymous" she flipped out and didn't want to be associated with them. I'm like, "you're here because kids from Anonymous getting roughed up and tear gassed by the cops is what made this a global news story, and you have the gall to attack them for their tactics?"

/it did not go over well with her

They're in NC, protesting Wallstreet, for the failings of the government in Washington. And if you look at their politics they mostly support our current government and will likely vote for Obama in 2012 if they vote at all.

Seems then that carrying this reasoning to the logical conclusion they should go protest the bank where Shope keeps his money in order to pressure them in to pressuring him to not be such a dick but then repeatedly reelect him to the same position (or abstain when the question arises).

That way . . . something . . . something. . . change the world!

It's going to be ironic when they realize that they should elect a representive for each occupy group to get together to decide how things should be done.

Yeah, so real & messy that women are getting raped and anti-Semintism is so rampant that the American Nazi Party came out in support of them. Yep, that's a group I want to align myself with!

Meanwhile, the Tea Party groups OBEYED the laws and got permits...which makes you think they weren't real. You ever heard the term "useful idiot" because it kinda applies to you & the "Occupy" groups.

Yeah, protesting Wall Street for the failings of government. These morons should be "occupying" Washington instead, but since they don't know their asses from a hole in the ground, they're occupying everywhere else and hurting communities and businesses around them.

At least they're hurting the message....whatever message that is. Ironically, they're protesting Wall Street, but they support the very politician who has taken tons of money from Wall Street...Obama.

There is an Occupy DC movement, but you're naive if you think that the problems either stem from there or are isolated there.

That actually makes sense though. I'm still hoping that some day people will see past this false left/right paradigm and start voting for the person who's actually not bought and paid for by wall street.

I admit that I don't really get anarchism as a form of government. It seems like a clusterfark.

badhatharry: I admit that I don't really get anarchism as a form of government. It seems like a clusterfark.

So you're backpedalling on your tired-ass Cold War rhetoric? Well, that's good, at least.

I've talked about a number of ways this could work, with the most basic being expanding the GA model to the entire country. If you assume that the most people you can reasonably have at a single assembly is 15,000 (which is a reasonable number and jives with what we've seen at the occupations) you'd need about 24,000 assemblies across the entire US, which is, interestingly enough, very close to the total number of cities and towns in the US. We have the technology and the mechanisms for mass democracy and the occupations are working out exactly how to best apply it over a large number of assemblies across the country.

There are also other ways to approach national governance in a hybrid way; given the avowed preference on the right for local government (states' rights and all) one would think that maintaining a limited representational national government and devolving most power to community/city/neighborhood assemblies would be well supported by conservatives.

so where do the problems stem from?

too bad we have politicians don't vote the way the are supposed to instead of being influenced by lobbyists.

too bad we have politicians that bailed out failure and rewarded bad behavior. Just makes it easy to have more failure and bad behavior in the future.

too bad we have politicians that write laws and a tax code that allows the corporations to outsource jobs and move money overseas.
