What oil spill? You mean the one that nobody went to prison over, the media interestingly no longer reports on, and that Americans have largely forgotten about? That never happened, and if it did it wasn't serious. Keep buying BP gasoline, please.

If it was serious, it wasn't BP's fault, and even if it was it's because they are taxed too much.

Indeed. Also, the world is stuffed full of pelicans. The non-oiled variety, too!

Please Use Lube: Evolutionarily, the pelicans were not fit to survive.

How is this unfortunate that nature work it's wonder?

An oil spill is a natural event?

I'm fine, you seem to have a quotation mark problem. Read the article again.

Hint: neither subby nor I think it's an actual oil painting.

As I recall, the best barometer for ecosystem health is the number of "common species in decline". The ecological heavyweights carry a lot of metaphorical momentum. One can hope that PJ was kidding, but considering how many people in the real world hold that opinion--and then say, "Well, if they're so endangered, they're clearly too weak to make it. Natural selection, biatches!" when the species does become endangered--I'm not holding my breath in hope.

The good news is that our species' average intelligence and education level are rising. The bad news is that they're doing it on a generation-by-generation basis, whereas major changes need to be made now. But hey, maybe that means our descendents will be smart enough to find a way out of the hole we're deliriously chucking them into.

And if they aren't? Natural selection, biatches!
