Freaking hero tag is well deserved.

If that had been my dog, I'd have thrown the guy a damn parade. Can't imagine not having her around.

Maybe you should start a news site dedicated to stories about firefighters saving people? Sounds like you're quite passionate about the subject.

That's pretty awesome. Way to go. Some badass CPR right there, getting a could seal can't have been easy.

Pet CPR?

I think that's called 'the time to buy a new pet'.

It's not as hard as you might think.

I was relieved to see that it was a Labrador. If it'd been one of those little bitty bug-eyed bags of scraggly fur that yip-yips when the wind blows, I would have had mixed feelings.

Your large dog that will die young gives it's applause because it won't have to live with how shiatty you treat it for much longer.

And my 15 year old Lab is getting a kick from the notion that big doggies die young and poops in its flower bed.

I did the same for my dog. She was choking on a rawhide so I performed the Hiemlich and then started rescue breathing and it worked. I stopped giving her rawhide after that.

At least I know that my dog will never die in a fire. Last time our smoke detector started beeping for a battery change he flipped out and started ramming himself against the front door. After that didn't work he ran to me with a "that sound means get the fark out of here look on his face"

Those firefighter's would have a cake delivered to their station house every week for the rest of my life if that had been my dog. 99.9% of humanity

My dog does that whenever we start a fire in our wood fireplace. Poor thing just becomes a basket case as we try to calm her and disregard her efforts to "rescue" us. I feel so bad at the look of panic she'll wear for half an hour until she calms down :(

I had a customer that was biatching that all his dog wanted to do was fetch sticks. Said in tones of incredulity and indignation as his Labrador Retriever was bringing back the stick.

"They found Koda in the very last room they searched, which happened to be the room that was actually on fire,'' Giese said.

Well that's all well and good, but maybe next time check the room that's ON FIRE first? You know, incase there's something dying in it while you play hide and seek in the undamaged rooms?

Do you know who else gives mouth-to-mouth to dogs? Chris Parnell^NSFW

2011-10-22 01:58:41 PM
Happiest mouth to mouth I've seen was a dog that came in to work frozen. His owners had accidentally left him out overnight, and he got into a kiddie pool to lay down. Just enough water left in it to turn him into a pupsicle. Our tech used warming blankets, warm IV fluids and mouth to snout for two hours to revive him. They aren't dead until they're warm and dead, because cold means you still have a chance. Five hours after they brought him in, he walked out with his tail wagging. One of the strangest and most awe inspiring things I've ever seen.

I had to give my dog the Hielmlich too! It was years ago, and she was a little terrier that scarfed down everything. She was choking on a LivaSnap. Choking wasn't even the word - choking would have implied air was getting in her throat. It was awful...
I did it, and she puked all over me, but was fine. It scared the crap out of me.

Good thing dogs like their own puke. I did remove the LivaSnap though, and threw out the rest of the box.
