It's called pop music for a reason. If you want thoughtful, intelligent song writing you might want to avoid the Top 200.

He was on Colbert last night and said that Radiohead was better than them, but that Coldplay was better looking.

I think it was Radiohead.

WTF Indeed: It's called pop music for a reason. If you want thoughtful, intelligent song writing you might want to avoid the Top 200.

Relative to the rest of the tripe on the top 200 Coldplay actually is thoughtful and intelligent.

Also, Chris Martin was pretty affable and funny on Colbert. Unlike Thom Yorke, whom I respect, but is absolutely awkward in an interview.

Give yourself some credit, Chris. Your lyrics are STILL better than those of "Hollaback Girl."

I don't mind Coldplay, but the thought of that whiny snotfaced biatch Rihanna dueting with them give me the douchechills.

I don't know that I could name a Coldplay song at gunpoint but some of my favorite songs have completely moronic lyrics. SOME OF THEM LACK LYRICS ALLTOGETHER!

La Bohème has some of the most beautiful opera music (and just plain beautiful music) known to mankind. In the one of the songs, the lyrics are (translated to English):

But my name is Lucy. ... They call me Mimi, And why I don't know.

Meh. Coldplay sounds like a U2 tribute band.

This statement leads me to believe you haven't listened to either band. If you're going to hate...at least try.

I thought Maroon 5 already did that...

Also, Coldplay's "Paradise" is a decent song at least to me. The SO is obsessed, and I got won over. But, like almost all bands, their material has gone downhill over the past couple of years (with the exception of "Viva La Vida" the song)

Tubular Bells and Axel F are on my Top 25 Most Played list on the iPod. Also, personally, (staying on Coldplay topic), Clocks is much better as an instrumental than with lyrics.

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: Give yourself some credit, Chris. Your lyrics are STILL better than those of "Hollaback Girl."

Having just finished watching '20', Cameron Crowe's film of Pearl Jam with the closed caption on, he writes better lyrics than Eddy Vedder, too.

Chris Martin's best work was his duet with Ray Stokes.

I remember watching a video of La Boheme in a music theory class once and wishing so badly that it didn't have subtitles. It was like watching a really cheesy musical.

Chris Martin has gone on record saying he doesn't trust black people.

I keep confusing him with Paul Bettany, yes they absolutely look nothing alike but I keep imagining him singing the songs.

Also the Scientist is an ok song.

Yep, beautiful sounds. Dumb-ass lyrics.

One of the reasons I loath Rent is that it got rid of the best part of La Bohème, and kept the overwrought dumb stuff. Actually, made it overwrought-er.

It was Radiohead. He also said that they were Indie Rock because they weren't as good-looking as Ricky Martin. I have to admit, the dude was self-effacing enough that I actually found it a bit hard to hate him. Which sucks, because I really want to hate Coldplay.

/Then I remember he's the guy that took Gwenyth Paltrow off the market.

That's exactly the way I feel about Coldplay. I absolutely LOATHE everything else that I've heard, but that album was pretty incredible.
