"The unavoidable question is whether this decision is the result of a naked political calculation or simply sheer ineptitude in negotiations with the Iraqi government. The American people deserve to hear the recommendations that were made by our military commanders in Iraq."

Does Romney know what those recommendations were? Color me skeptical.

This agreement was made by Bush. Romney's attack is completely transparent.

I'm just glad our people are coming home. Apparently Romney feels otherwise.

And cowards start coming out...

2011-10-21 03:13:17 PM
That didn't take long...

2011-10-21 03:13:58 PM
Oh great. I was really wondering what the spin was going to be.

2011-10-21 03:14:52 PM
I don't care if it was naked political calculation. We did all we could be expected to do there, it's time to bring them home.

2011-10-21 03:16:57 PM
I'd like to think Romney is still the experienced diplomat I remember him to be, and he's just pandering to the room-temperature-IQ WWE crowd here, but I'm having my doubts.

His advisors are the same neocon dumbfarks that got us into that mess in the first place. I'd say your doubts have strong grounding.

You know what else was a naked political calculation...?

2011-10-21 03:22:52 PM
so obama traveled back in time to 2008 and convinced the previous republican president to set a pull out date. now THAT'S some calculating! brilliant!

He's always three steps ahead....or, behind...or, something.

Stupid temporal grammar.

2011-10-21 03:26:39 PM
It's a naked political calculation, made three years ago, and before he was President.

The Obama Time Machine strikes again!

"Today's announcement that we will remove all of our forces from Iraq is a political decision and not a military one; it represents the complete failure of President Obama to secure an agreement with Iraq for our troops to remain there to preserve the peace and demonstrates how far our foreign policy leadership has fallen."

I literally want them to say,"We should have ignored the wishes of the Iraqi people, and stayed there to defend against Iran." Because you know they will.

Oh! Wait for Cain's statement ;)

This is absolute BS on Romney's part, but not surprising. I guess Mittens forgot about the timetable that BUSH signed on to?

2011-10-21 04:06:35 PM
Doesn't he have to wear Special Magic Underwear for political calculations?

2011-10-21 04:12:47 PM
Mr. Coffee Nerves: Doesn't he have to wear Special Magic Underwear for political calculations?

Yes, but he has to undo the front flap if the calculations involve numbers bigger than ten.

2011-10-21 04:43:15 PM
FlashHarry: so obama traveled back in time to 2008 and convinced the previous republican president to set a pull out date. now THAT'S some calculating! brilliant!

Funnily, I remember arguing with Republicans during the 08 election about Obama's promise to set a timetable for withdrawal, and they were telling me how insane and dangerous and "emboldening" it was... then Bush announced a timetable for withdrawal, and I laughed and made a joke about Obama influencing Presidential policy before even getting elected.

Politically, 2008 was a fantastic year.

2011-10-21 05:29:51 PM
so the neocons are back giving the republicans their talking points I see.

2011-10-21 05:45:37 PM
So Republicans now want to send troops into foreign countries? It's so hard to tell when the GOP opposed any intervention in Libya and opposed sending troops to get a child-raping Christian army to knock it off.

2011-10-21 05:54:40 PM
Why did President Obama invade Iraq?

And why doesn't he have an acceptable exit strategy now?

exactly
should obama have done it sooner. sure whatever
should BUSH have brought them all home before he left office? fark YES.
asshole made a mess, didnt clean it up, wasnt held accountable and now the people who supported him are QQing about timing?? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

GAT_00: So Republicans now want to send troops into foreign countries? It's so hard to tell when the GOP opposed any intervention in Libya and opposed sending troops to get a child-raping Christian army to knock it off.

the GOP supports those groups. they didnt want to depose their friends ...

2011-10-21 06:25:53 PM
So the talking points download has been sent to the hive mind then?

2011-10-21 07:23:58 PM
Go fark yourself, Mr. "My military-age kids are serving their country by working on my campaign."

2011-10-21 07:25:12 PM
Diogenes: This agreement was made by Bush. Romney's attack is completely transparent.

Bingo. The only reason we were thinking of staying is because Iraq asked us to. The sticking point was whether or not our service men would be subject to their judicial system. They wouldn't budge, we're coming home.

Time to celebrate, but there's no political victor here; neither Obama nor the Republicans.

2011-10-21 07:32:48 PM
Going INTO Iraq was a naked political calculation AND simply sheer ineptitude in negotiations with the Iraqi government. Short f*cking memories with these people.

And yes, I was duped into supporting that war, but I can admit my mistakes and learn from them.

2011-10-21 07:47:45 PM
CanisNoir: we're coming home.

violentsalvation: And yes, I was duped into supporting that war, but I can admit my mistakes and learn from them.

Congratulations. It takes a big man to admit his mistake.

Likewise, Clinton duped me on NAFTA and GATT. I give myself a break because I was still a teenager at the time.

GAT_00: So Republicans now want to send troops into foreign countries? It's so hard to tell when the GOP opposed any intervention in Libya and opposed sending troops to get a child-raping Christian army to knock it off.

I know. I can't even keep up with the pathological hatred anymore.

2011-10-21 08:22:16 PM
Obama was so successful running against Bush that Romney decided to steal his playbook.

/trolling both sides.

2011-10-21 08:22:31 PM
Diogenes: Romney's attack is completely transparent.

I detect traces of santorum in it, so not completely.

2011-10-21 08:23:41 PM
I don't care if it is.

Fewer young American men and women dying in a pointless war on the other side of the earth is a good thing. IMO.

We have problems of our own here, burning lives and money on foreign shores adds to those problems. If Iraq can't get their shiat together after 10 years that's their problem.

2011-10-21 08:27:04 PM
Obama should just turn to Romney and say "Look, I can't keep fighting this fool's errand forever. I'm running for office, for Pete's sake!"

2011-10-21 08:29:28 PM
Diogenes: Does Romney know what those recommendations were? Color me skeptical.

Yeah.

That's a big bullshiat meter pegger, right there.

Romney is an out-of-work former state government figure. He would not be privy to what goes on in the back rooms of the Federal Government... unless, of course, he'd like to tell us all where he got that information.

2011-10-21 08:29:46 PM
unnecessarily put at risk the victories that were won

Can someone fill me in on what victories he's talking about? What have we accomplished there exactly? Saddam's dead? Big deal.

2011-10-21 08:39:05 PM
Naked Rommunism.

Oh yeah.

2011-10-21 08:41:16 PM
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't bringing them home by 2012 something Obama said he was going to do pretty much from day one?

Doing what he said constitutes a naked political calculation?

It is to laugh!

2011-10-21 08:41:38 PM
Naked except for the magic underwear, right Mitt?

Oh, you were talking about Obama. My bad.
