I don't get the dictator mentality. He had the chance to cut and run months ago when things started looking grim and he hangs on, denying the fact that he is only hurting his country and himself.

Oh well. I find it interesting in several stories where he announces who he is and expects his "loyal" citizens to respect him.

There was a web comic a few months ago that summed it up pretty well (paraphrasing): Being a dictator means a lifetime of luxury and wealth. Sure, the last ten minutes suck when the good guys show up, but it's worth it for forty years of gold, feasts, and whores.
