Loved the series, at least it ended while still was funny...

I love the show, but it's not upsetting that they want to end it while it is still fresh and funny.

/A gay musical... called "Gay." That's quite gay.

The good comedies (especially the British ones) know when to stop - Fawlty Towers, Young Ones, Blackadder, IT Crowd etc.

I'm generally a big fan of British comedies, but I watched 5-6 episodes of this on Netflix and absolutely hated it. Sorry to hear it's ending for those of you that enjoy it, though.

I love this show!
I was surprised to see it on Netflix!

I also like watching Portlandia.

Yeah, throw me down into the "I'm okay with this" category. I love the show, but there's no reason to drag it on and on.

2011-10-21 10:44:45 AM
Don't worry, it will be Americanized, go on for 7 seasons, lose one of the main characters that made it funny, have a marriage/baby plot, and after that...who knows

2011-10-21 10:50:55 AM
The only way this could be a good thing (not that I want it to drag on into unfunnyness) is if the REAL reason is because they're going to do a fourth season of The Mighty Boosh.

/please please please

I'd settle for more episodes of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

Will have to look that one up as I've never heard of it.
Thanks! (assuming it doesn't blow goats)

I'm not worried at all. When the series ends, I'll just turn it off then turn it back on.

Magic!!1!

I'm a little curious. Was it the subject matter/writing or just the laugh track? I understand not likeing either, but the laugh track seems to be most people's biggest issue.

Laugh track? Its filmed in front of a live audience.

FTFA: "Apart from anything else, we're probably reaching that stage where it begins to feel odd that Roy, Jen and Moss are still stuck down in that basement."

He's obviously never actually worked in IT. I've been stuck in that basement for 25 years.

They tried it, and much like Coupling, it was thankfully shot in the face before anyone had to suffer through it. The German version is funny, since (at least for the episodes by boss watched) they were straight script translations. And as we all know, German comedy is the world's comedy yardstick, of course.

Semantics. People cackling on screen telling the viewer when it's time to laugh. A lot of people are turned off by that and I am curious if that was a factor for the gentleman I quoted.

I think the writing is terrible and from the few episodes I saw, it just seemed like the IT version of blackface minstrel shows. I'm in IT, (I did end user support on campus for years, currently DBE) and I resent the implication that everyone in this field is a greasy squeaky-voiced twat that surrounds themselves with children's toys and choke on their tongues when a pair of tits is around. (Same reason I loathe the Big Bang Theory.)

At gunpoint?

Maybe it just needs a reboot?

I get that. I work IT too but that sort of thing doesn't bug me. It only happens to bug me when people in real life can't differentiate between a TV show and a person they know.

CSB, I had a warehouse manager mention something about Star Trek TNG to me and I thought he was trying the imlication that IT= nerd = loves Star Trek/Wars, etc. I think I kind of chided him for bringing it up, but he genuinely liked the show and I was a little embarrassed for being overly sensitive about it.

Never could get into that show. It never seemed "authentic" to me in it's humor. Seemed like non-technical people making an IT comedy show for non-technical people.

Which is fine, don't get me wrong, but it confuses me as to why computer geeky / tech savvy folks were so into it.

The IT Crowd is the only show with a laugh track that I can actually stand. I thought it was so funny that I didn't even notice the laugh track. I think it would have been even better without it though.

buttsmckracken: Laugh track? Its filmed in front of a live audience.

Come on. You don't actually believe that the laughs on shows that are "filmed in front of a live studio audience" aren't recorded, repeated, enhanced, and inserted in new places, do you?

Why you gotta troll like that.

It's strange for me. When I'm alone and watching, no trouble at all. But if I watch it with people that don't know the show, suddenly the laugh track is booming.

With that said, I don't care if a show has a laugh track for the most part.

There's a big overlap between "people that get worked up over laugh tracks" and "people who get worked up over booth babes", I've noticed.

/those people tend to be less than entertaining to hang around with

I feign ignorance when I meet new people that are obviously not geeks try to "talk geek" to me because of my profession.
"Hitchhikers Guide? Are you going on a trip or something?"

If they go on to explain what Hitchhikers Guide is and express a true interest in it, I'll talk to them about it, but if they're not interested in talking about it, neither am I.

I don't care if you really do love TNG or not (I enjoyed it), but if a 15 year old TV show is the first thing you think of when you start talking to me, maybe we truly have nothing to talk about.

2011-10-21 11:35:13 AM
I wish they could have had it last longer, but I'd rather they stop on a high note rather than get stale.

Knara: There's a big overlap between "people that get worked up over laugh tracks" and "people who get worked up over booth babes", I've noticed.

In general, I don't like laugh tracks because I find that they destroy the modicum of suspension of disbelief required to truly enjoy a television show (or movie, or play, or video game). It's impossible to immerse yourself in something when you're constantly being reminded that you are indeed watching a television show.

I don't really have an opinion on "Booth Babes."

Probably because you don't believe either is "pandering".
