But only through the back door

This is what Mass learned when it made marriage equality exactly that. To be fair, the number of folks rushing to marry after being forbidden for so long was a higher swing than will normalize over time.

Boils down to it: same sex marriages are only a fraction of marriages. It will mean that shops are going to carry matching tuxes for the groom and groom's parties, and brides can put TWO sets of brides maid's in crappy dresses if they like, or a mix and match of wedding parties as they like. It means that the most flexible of shops will do better to get their business, and the folks who get their backs up will lose business. That is the market in action.

The one thing that you realize when gay folks can marry? Wedding bands still suck...

Lol. The Commonwealth has been raking in this cash for YEARS.

Ever been to the home of two gay yuppies? A dinner party? A backyard cookout? Now imagine how much time, effort, and money they'll put into their wedding...

Okay, so now the gay agenda is obviously to help boost the economy.

Republicans cannot stand for that! The gays... getting in the way of their plans to destroy the economy. How dare they!

No, but I've seen them on TV*.

*Mostly Modern Family. The distaffbopper thinks I watch it with her because it's funny, but I watch mainly for Sofia Vergara's cleavage.

Duh.

It was one of my reasons for making it legal. It'll help the economy.

You've increased the number of potential clients for all that wedding claptrap.

The republicans who voted for gay marriage are also finding their donations increased.

Not all of us play to the stereotype. My boyfriend and I plan on having a 3 minute ceremony and going out for ribs. If I spend more than 15 minutes thinking about planning the ceremony - I've failed.

I know, and not all women want a Special Barbie Princess day.

But a lot do, and the economy of Massachusetts took advantage of the gay men who DID do a huge gala.

As a chef, I've seen more than a few weddings in Mass--gay and straight--and the big difference in gay and lesbian weddings is a slightly better menu choice, and a slightly different choice for music. There IS a breed of gal who likes a tux, and there are gals who both like pretty dresses. I have yet to see any cross dressing queens for ANY wedding here in Western Mass--not for a lack of queens at the clubs, but apparently, Western Mass has gay men who are bit more traditional when they rent halls.

Done weddings for couples that are professional, for earthy crunchy types, for blue collar couples, and gay or straight, folks just want their family and friends to have a good time with them. Which, to be fair, is what weddings are about. Marriages? That's for the couples and a lifetime to figure out, but weddings are about sharing the day with folks you care for.

Of course they are putting more into the economy. Not only will lesbian couples have to buy one dress, but probably two (and wedding dresses are NOT cheap). I'm waiting for designers to make "Her and Her" dresses that match, but are slightly different to add to the whole ambiance of the wedding.

So, how's that post-Proposition 8 economy going for you, California? Maybe New York and Massachusetts can buy you for five cents on the dollar.
