Eh... Bruins desperately needed that win after their embarrassing display against Carolina... Leafs played the night before, as well.

I'm not saying the Leafs aren't going to suck in the long run (or the Bruins for that matter), but it's late October. The game doesn't really mean much.

Having said that, I always enjoy a good "Thank You, Kessel" chant when Seguin puts one in the back of the net on the Leafs.

Let's Go, Bruins! Need to start stringing some wins together now.

It just shows how weak the leafs first opponents were, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary? These are NOT playoff teams, you can't plan the cup parade down yonge st. just because you beat Winnipeg. Ottawa beat Winnipeg. Notice how they come up against real teams, Kessel disappears, not one shot registered in that game. guess scoring at a Gretzky like pace is easy if you are playing against a minor league team. Yes Montreal I include you in that statement, because other than Price, you don't have a player worth the money you guys are paying them.

Hey come on now be fair. Kessel did have one shot on goal.

I stand corrected, thank you sir.

Bruins have been pretty effective at shutting him down... 'Course it helps when Kessel is essentially a one or two trick pony, too.

He's definitely showing some improvement on the defensive end of his game, though. Hell, I think I saw him back checking a couple of times last night...

I made two bets with Toronto fan tards at work.

Bet 1) they will not make the playoffs

Bet 2) Kessel will not score MORE than 40 goals (40 or less i win)

Gunna be some easy money this year.

Bruins have been playing like absolute thugs this year. There's tough, and then there's undisciplined bonehead plays.

Thanks, B's. You helped put things back the way they should be: Division-leading Buffalo Sabres.

It was weird seeing Toronto on top of the division for a couple days.

I do like that Ottawa is actually ahead of the Habs by 1 point, at the moment.

Sabres and Bruins don't meet up until Nov 12, I think. Always one of my favorite Divisional match ups, besides Montreal.

...Doesn't he already have 7? Or is this a "mid-season form" prediction I'm not aware of?

Watching kessel for the past few years, and by watching i mean living in toronto and hearing the fans talk about him endlessly... there will be a few points in the season where he has a 20-30 game scoreless streak where the only assists he gets will be because someone bounched the puck off his back.

Once he gets going he gets the tendancy to turn into ovechkin. the 1 move wonder and teams figure it out. Kessel will burst down the wing and take a shot from 25 feet out that is easily saved. Over and over and over and over for 20-30 games in a row.

I figure that will be more than enough to average down any hot start or finish he has.

The longest Kessel has gone without a goal since joining the Leafs is 11 games. The longest without a point is 6, which was during his longest goal drought.

It's one game. If they lose the next three or four you're on to something. Besides, one of the Leafs biggest problems in recent years has been losing to weak, non-playoff teams they should beat, or at least get a point from.

And how about the stats on his longest streak of only 1 or 2 goals... 3?

There was a period last year where he was into the 20's of games with like 2 goals ... so average wise it might as well be zero.

Sabres look good this year. Played a very complete game against the Panthers last night (yeah, I know it was the Panthers. Can't believe Theodore hasn't retired yet).

With Miller and the new defense, and Vanek playing like he is, I easily see them in the conference finals. It's only been 6 games, but I'm starting to like Pominville with the C, too.

But it's early. We'll see how they look in Jan-Feb.

That was March where he had three goals but since you like averages here's one, 0.7 points per game over that span. And as tired as this statement is, he still doesn't have a decent center to play with.

Have the Sabers ever gotten around to getting Ryan Miller an offense? Wasn't it just this last year that the Sabers went to 7 games in the opening playoff series and every game they won Miller pitched a 1-0 shutout?

/don't play a whole lot of attention to the East

Why would you at this time? The West is the better conference at the moment and I don't think many would argue that the Pacific division is the best in NHL at the moment.

Precisely. I mean, Chara had zero points over six games. That is not indicative of his regular style of play. Meanwhile Kessel is averaging two points per game. That is also not indicative of his regular style of play.

Toronto has been fun to watch though, even when they've been playing sloppily. Jake Gardiner is great, and James Reimer has been their best player by far. He's really coming into his own.

Excellent game for the Kings last night but damn! the Coyotes seem to have no threats on offense. Big game tomorrow against Minnesota Dallas.

It was a sloppy game by the Kings, especially a few passes in the neutral zone. The difference this year (and last for the majority of the year) is that the team has skill players that can win a game even if the play is not all top notch. That and having Quick coming up huge when mistakes lead to wide open shots.

The Sabres were 4th in the East (and 9th in the League) in offense last season, finishing with only one goal less than the eventual Cup champion Bruins.

Their offense hasn't really been a problem. That's why they focused this offseason mostly on acquiring defense (Regehr, Ehrhoff) and extending Myers' contract.

Sabres always seem to do pretty well against the West. Finished 10-5-3 against the Western Conference last season. 2-0-0 so far this season, with a pair of wins against the mighty Pacific division. Beat both Anaheim and LA Kings in Europe.

To be fair on the Leafs, it was Gustavsson in net and that guy has no business playing at the NHL level. Leafs will sneak into the playoffs this year.

(Still waiting to see what all the hype is about Cody Franson)

Yeah, in the last two games maybe. All the games before that they were practically pansies.
