Andre at #2? Really? Reeeeeeeealy? The idiot author even referenced "The Greatest Drunk on Earth" and thought Wade Farking Boggs was a better tippler?

I bite my thumb at thee, author!

Its Bleacher Report so I'm going to assume 90% of the list is recent athletes?

2011-10-21 11:31:57 AM
A 27 page slideshow? Where do I sign up?

/a vote for me is a vote for Bleacher Report sucking giant hairy donkey dick

List fails without Billy Martin.

2011-10-21 01:20:05 PM
So they included the Red Sox pitchers and Dirk Nowitski celebrating a championship but they leave out Brad Marchand of the Bruins after winning the Stanley Cup? That dude was drunk 24/7 for a month.

2011-10-21 01:23:27 PM
No George Best?

2011-10-21 01:31:06 PM
What about this recent farkticle (new window)?

2011-10-21 01:34:29 PM
It's only 1:35pm - I'm not drunk enough to click through a 27 page farking slideshow!

2011-10-21 01:34:34 PM
No Riggins, Mickey Mantle, hell even an honorable mention for most of the 70's Raiders? No, but let's put in a pictures of current, famous athletes blowing off some steam and pretend that they routinely pound a 6-er before getting out of bed everyday.

/God Bleacher Report is worthless
//Is this the best the anti-espn crowd can come up with?
//And that isn't even the best Fuzzy Thurston story available

2011-10-21 01:38:13 PM
For this article: NoScript = NoSlideshow

2011-10-21 01:39:36 PM
It's not a real sport, so I guess that's why Andre is number two, but this is a guy who could drink a whole case of wine and have the ability to tip over a car afterwards.

If that's not enough for number one on ever list of drunks ever I don't know what is.

2011-10-21 01:40:48 PM
God, I hate Bleacher Report. And it really has little to do with the slideshow format. The content itself is just bad, like no one there completes their thoughts. They get an idea and half-ass it.

This. Andre would drink everyone on this list into a coma and not even acheive a buzz.

downstairs: Its Bleacher Report so I'm going to assume 90% of the list is recent athletes?

not only that, but it seems half the list is based off of a single picture oh whoever holding a bottle. Barry Zito is on there, with the only reference to drinking being "look Barry Zito is holding a vodka bottle."

Sorry Bleacher Report, getting drunk one night or having your picture taken with a beer doesn't mean you're one of the heaviest drinkers of all time.

2011-10-21 02:00:18 PM
I know he wasn't a "real" athlete, but Andre the Giant deserves a mention. Guy could drink 50 beers in one sitting.

2011-10-21 02:00:35 PM
No Ed Belfour?

Not any hockey players at all?

This list is disappointing...or American.

List is retarded withou Lanny McDonald.

Dude could do the the Bill "The Fox" Foster from The Man Show and just pour them down his throat.

Plus, look at that mustache!

Add me to the "Bleacher Report Sucks Hairy Balls" list. The only reason they should be here is if they are paying Drew for their links. (clicked a few Bleacher Report lists in the past, then blocked them with the firewall).

Where's Hack Wilson? The man had 191 rbi's in the 1930 season & never had a sober at-bat.

Also, any list of this ilk that doesn't include Mickey Mantle is completely bogus.

2011-10-21 02:32:58 PM
No Alex Higgins? He was possibly the most talented drunk athlete (alright snooker player) in history. His biography is like one big drunken car wreck. I highly recommend it.

Heaviest drinkers in sports history by which they partake in "sports" traditionally deemed "American"

Oh yeah, and where's George Best? This list sucks.

"It usually takes two liters of vodka just to make me feel warm inside." -- Andre the Giant

Just chew on that for a moment. He had to drink more vodka than is contained in an entire handle just to get his buzz started. To paraphrase "Moneyball" -- there's Andre, there's 50 feet of shiat, and then there's everybody else in the world. He's beyond being a champion drinker -- I'm certain he went into the nether realms after his death and drank Bacchus himself under the table to assume the role of the God of Drinking for the rest of eternity.

Damn straight. Drank himself to death, he did. And let's give an dishonorable mention to Ed Delahanty, who was swept to his death over Niagara Falls while on a bender (new window)

Sure, Mickey Mantle spent 2 decades perpetually drunk and later died of liver failure.

But we're bumping him off the list because we have a camera pic of Barry Zito holding a Grey Goose bottle.

I remember an old school NBC Letterman interview with Mantle. Mantle told a story how he went out drinking all night with Whitey Ford because he was on the disabled list and Ford had pitched the day before. They found themselves the next day out on some stranger's farm out in the middle of nowhere. They both hauled ass back to the stadium just in time to catch the game, both reeking of booze. Mantle passed out on the bench. The manager tapped him on the shoulder and told him it was his time to bat. Mantle didn't realize he had been activated from the disabled list that day. He was still too drunk to find his cap. He eventually stumbled up to the plate, belted a homer to straight away center.

Dude could have been the greatest of all time if he wasn't such a massive drunk and took care of himself and had a normal career span for a player of that talent. He was essentially washed up by 32.

JerseyTim: No George Best?

In 1969 I gave up women and alcohol - it was the worst 20 minutes of my life.
-- George Best

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Also a fail without mentioning Max McGee or Paul Hornung:

Nothing better illustrates Paul Hornung's abilities than his actions on one December weekend in 1965. The Packers were in Baltimore for a showdown with the Colts. Hornung had been nursing an injury and didn't expect to play, so he and a friend who played for the Redskins got together with a couple girls at a bar about halfway between Baltimore and D.C. Hornung rushed back to the Packers' hotel for the 11pm bed-check, then snuck back out to meet his friend and the ladies. They caroused until well after sunrise and the half-drunk/half-hungover Hornung didn't get back to the hotel until after 8:30 Sunday morning. While eating breakfast with the team, he was approached by Vince Lombardi, who wanted to know how he felt. When Hornung lied and said he felt fine, Lombardi said, "Good. You're starting today."

He went on to have a career day.

Go Pack!!

What was the difference between George Best and Princess Diana's driver?

George Best could handle corners when he's drunk.

John Daly?

No Rube Waddell? He was drunk AND crazy.

Pat Burrell is not a drunk. Its just that places that serve booze often tend to be full of women with questionable morals.

George Best drank himself to death, Paul Gascoigne is sadly following the same path.

outside of the top 5 or 6, it was a list of guys caught drinking heavily, not actual heavy drinkers. Was expecting Ty Cobb and Namath on there. But the Andre stats were truly astonishing. worth the click for that.

/and NoScript blocking the slideshow
//but not the list

Wow. Just read about Gascoigne on his wiki. It all that's true he will probably be dead any time now.
