An Australian woman born without a uterus will undergo a transplant to receive her mother's womb in hopes of giving birth.

So that she can pass her defective genes on to the next generation of women with no uterus?

Fark that shiat.

If her mother's womb isn't working correctly while in her mother, what the hell makes this dumb coont think that a transplant is magically going to turn it into the opposite of a barren wasteland incapable of carrying life?

Nice one subby. HotY candidate.

Wasn't this just on some doctor show?

Well, if the daughter is making hormones, then it might work better as opposed to synthetic hormones mom would have to use.

I hope it works for her.

Does this mean she'll enter menopause sooner?

2011-10-21 10:45:13 AM
good grief just adopt already, or get a cat, hell even a nice ficus would be more sensible than this!

Was she hit in the uterus by a Manny Ramirez home run?

2011-10-21 10:46:05 AM
I think I'd adopt before I even considered having junk transplant surgery.

2011-10-21 10:46:10 AM
How wisible.

2011-10-21 10:47:06 AM
So she'll be her own child's mother, grandmother, and sister?

Don't get hysterical about it.

About 500 million(a stat I just made up) kids in this world need adopted and we westerners waste money on things like this.

2011-10-21 10:50:04 AM
It says in the article that adoption attempts "failed." I'm interested to know how, exactly, that happened. I'd assume she has to pay for this uterus transplant, so money can't be the issue (unless the Australian medical system provides full coverage for stuff like this, which I suppose is possible).

It seems like if you were born without a womb that you might just need to come to terms with the fact that you won't ever be able to have kids of your own.

/Where's the fetus going to gestate?! You gonna keep it in a box?!

White: Billy check out that honey-pot over there. [Pointing at Dr. Girlfriend.] That's the kind of archenemy we need.

Billy: That's Dr. Girlfriend. She kicks with that wash-up who thinks it's cool to wear butterfly wings. You know the what's-his-name?

White: Oh right. The Monarch. Sure. Wait, that's Dr. Girlfriend? People say she's kind of... you know... manly.

Billy: Totally. And I heard from a reliable source that she has a surgically implanted baboon's uterus.

White: Can they even do that?

Billy: Your naivete is alarming. I have personally grafted a pony's face onto the abdomen of a well known celebrity.

White: Is it someone I've heard of?

Billy: I do not kiss and tell.

Now imagine that the baby is a girl and they transplant that uterus back into the grandmother who in turn gives birth to a daughter...and so on until the universe explodes.

You better wear a condom now that she has a uterus....

...and that's why it's called a uterus

I wonder what kind of mileage you could get out of a uterus. Will the third generation be able to have it or will there be too much genetic deviation?

My wife and I tried to adopt our second child. Californian adoption laws are NUTS (glad we no longer live there). Insane to the level where we both now understand why movie stars go overseas.

/// We were both adopted children
// She got pregnant just before we finished the paperwork
/ Beautiful girl

I'm sure she's upset because she can't have kids, but this seems like an ovary action.

Most people pass down jewelry or old watches or something as heirlooms. Passing down a uterus to your descendents would be a little... strange.

I know several couples who have had adoptions fall through. One went to the hospital twice, carseat in hand, to be told that birthmom had changed her mind. This sucks, but you keep trying.

Or was she denied adoption because of being somehow unsuitable? If that's the case, I need more information as to why before I know how to feel here.

2011-10-21 11:18:15 AM
She has been married for 12 YEARS yet still feels their life isn't complete without children? That poor guy. My husband and I are happy enough with each other we are trying to figure out if we even want kids or not. Right now leaning towards no.

Adoption failed? I want to know if that means "baby's mother changed her mind and we were devastated, so adoption doesn't work" or "we couldn't meet the requirements for adoption". Also, an implanted uterus has never successfully been able to yield a child, what makes her think she is so special? She is spending a ton of money to only end up heartbroken in the end.

She needs to realize she has a wonderful and loving husband, enough that they don't need children of their own. If she wants to be involved with children to fill that void she obviously has, then volunteer for any number of children's organization or become a foster parent.

This culture of needing children to feel fulfilled baffles me. I am lacking nothing in my childless life and never once have thought "If only I had a child I would feel happier."

Desmo: FTFA "Adoption attempts also failed.."

She has no uterus.
She failed at using a surrogate.
She failed at adopting.

This is proof that god does NOT want you to have a child. probably for a good reason.
When we read the follow up, where they both died during the transplant ...

back to adoption.
did she FAIL or did she only want to adopt a white, healthy baby?
My understanding is that there are a lot of unhealthy and/or non-white children which need adopting.

I am guessing that there were many reasons that they didnt give this woman a baby.

Exactly! She needs to take a good look at her life and marriage. She wants to put her whole family through this with no proven results. Selfish, in my opinion. Just get a purse dog, lady.

Diogenes: I think I'd adopt before I even considered having junk transplant surgery.

The article mentions that adoption attempts have failed. How exactly have they failed at adoption? If they are that unfit, seems like they shouldn't go to the extraordinary measure of implanting a uterus.

If you don't qualify for adoption then you shouldn't be able get these type of fertility treatment. Think of the children more then yourself.

What scares me the is that people who want children the most go out and do things like this, which only serve to prove how completely unfit they would be in the charge of another human being.

What is she going to do in the slim chance that this is successful, she gets her baby, and she STILL isn't satisfied with life?

Even if the daughter is making hormones, the articles cites that ZERO implanted uteruses have resulted in a pregnancy.

Besides, with 7 billion people and counting, some couples just really need to learn to take all the hints they've been given and donate their time and money to causes that actually help living, breathing children instead of wasting it all on a selfish pursuit to spread their already defective genes.
