Not as bad as the 40 cops it took to arrest a woman at the Occupy Seattle protest for the crime of....sitting down and opening her umbrella.

2011-10-20 05:54:28 PM
Then they came for the law abiding citizens in evening gowns, but I said nothing, since me in an evening gown should be a crime.

Wow. I had no idea that Seattle cops were even more fascist than Philly cops.

By advocating for the OWS freaks, she became one of them and subject to arrest.

now this is something everyone should be protesting, and fiercly

Yea yea. This isn't even a pimple on the ass of the bonus army yet.

I'll say this much, if all these people, and the 70%+ of people that approve of their sentiments, don't motherfarking vote to counteract this neoliberal nonsense we've been practicing since 1980, it's not going to amount to anything.

A "white shirt" (senior NYPD officer) told her she was breaking the law in doing so, and when she asked him to clarify how this was so, he had her arrested.

Don't know why I was expecting something different but if you watch the video that's almost exactly what happens.

Has anyone bothered to explain to the people that can produce and enforce them what a "lawful order" actually is? Seems most officers believe them to include anything that comes out of their mouths.

base935: I remember when America was a free country.

I remember that to... it was an awesome dream...then the phone rang, and I woke up.

anyways... finally someone falsely arrested for a non-existent law who probably has enough money to sue the shiat out of NYPD.

Like shooting fish in a barrel, the cops would rather occupy themselves with a protest than pay attention to more serious crimes that are happening in NYC. Beware of the Abner Louima treatment from the cops, lady.

This woman is obviously insane and needs to be locked up.

Wolf suggested in 2003 that the ubiquity of Internet pornography tends to enervate the sexual attraction of men toward typical real women. She writes, "The onslaught of porn is responsible for deadening male libido in relation to real women, and leading men to see fewer and fewer women as 'porn-worthy.' Far from having to fend off porn-crazed young men, young women are worrying that as mere flesh and blood, they can scarcely get, let alone hold, their attention." Wolf advocates abstaining from porn not on moral grounds, but because "greater supply of the stimulant equals diminished capacity.

I am sorry, but I cannot get behind someone who thinks in such crazy ways.

I guess that's no different that women raised to think that any man without a six pack and six figures is an unsuitable mate?

you're also a pretty big asshole and should be beaten and arrested if you use "peaceable conduct" in a sentence for no reason.

So, everybody looks the other way when The Powers That Be install a constitutuionally ineligible person in the White House, then you're surprised when they take away your constitutional right to gather peaceably?

You can't have it both ways, people. You have to stand up for what is right, and having someone who is dedicated to this country is what is right when it comes to the presidency. Harrison Bounel/Barry Soetoro/Barack Obama/whoever he is is not that person. And it's not right that the DHS can cordone off a street because of a peaceable demonstration.

These thugs are at the point where they think they can do anything.

The sad thing is the police will continue to do things like this and get away with it.

I'm glad they arrested her. Now we will get some attention to the ways the first amendment has been removed and replaced with permission for police to do anything they want.

Our laws are so contradictory, not even the lawmakers understand them, let alone the LEOS. But they just keep passing more and more, without even reading the bills.

Time for change?

I really try to avoid getting into "police state! lack of freedom!" etc hyperbole, but it's really goddamn hard not to when you see ridiculous laws like this one not only being passed, but being enforced.

But worse still is that stuff like this -- and sadly there are countless examples in recent years -- does not spark outrage among the general populace. Instead, the person being arrested is painted as a troublemaker.

And here I thought being a troublemaker against unjust authority was an inherently American trait.

I'm sure the police truly believe that, they are just caught up in the career path management track. Group-think and all that.

in all fairness - she was asked like 3-4 times to vacate the sidewalk before any action was taken.
I don't know what law or city ordinance they acted under, but I am going to assume there is one, and she was asked a few times before being removed from the side walk.

If you are told to do something, its best to just go ahead and do it, and fight it later- On the street is not the place to have that battle if you enjoy your wrists being bracelet free.

Oh no your so right, the time and place to fight "the man" is on the roadway where you are about to be arrested for what ever.

Like it or lump it - many states have a catch all charge

Take for instance - NY State law
Disorderly conduct

A person is guilty of disorderly conduct when, with intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof:

1. He engages in fighting or in violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior; or

2. He makes unreasonable noise; or

3. In a public place, he uses abusive or obscene language, or makes an obscene gesture; or

4. Without lawful authority, he disturbs any lawful assembly or meeting of persons; or

5. He obstructs vehicular or pedestrian traffic; or

6. He congregates with other persons in a public place and refuses to comply with a lawful order of the police to disperse; or

7. He creates a hazardous or physically offensive condition by any act which serves no legitimate purpose.

Disorderly conduct is a violation.

and those private citizens are typically arm themselves are constantly bleating about "tyranny" see nothing wrong with this sort of crap. you'd think that anyone really interested in fighting tyranny would gather some folks, arm up, and go shoot some of these fascist assholes.

so, as was mentioned upthread, i find myself unable to give a f*ck when i hear about people shooting cops. the whole police system is rotten to its core.

I'm sure there are a few desk clerks back at the precinct that are pouring through books looking for the most asinine, petty laws that the city has, just to enforce them on the OWS crowd.
Most cops are probably shaking their heads that they can legally follow through.
Orders are orders.
