Cool find. I'm going to write him at his Compuserv address.

That is pretty cool, actually, especially considering that those are typically the more thought-provoking eps in seasons 5 and 6.

They certainly are still here. Proper blue ones and everything.
Use to confuse the hell out of me as a kid because I didn't know
the TARDIS was based on a police box and just assumed that's what
time machines naturally looked like. For me seeing one on a
street corner was the exact equivalent of seeing the Enterprise
parked in the sky. I couldn't understand why no one was else was
amazed that the Doctor was in town.

The other Who-related Moffat usenet postings that are kind of interesting is the discussion about Sex and The Doctor, which includes comments about The Doctor's apparent preference for mini-skirted bimbos as companions. (new window)

Also, this rather amusing quote: "And did you call me idiotic in the middle of an argument among
grown adults about Doctor Who's sex life? Honestly!!
"

MC Magic Cracker: He wrote the Doctor Who parody that featured Rowan Atkinson and Jennifer Saunders, way before he was showrunner.

And before that, he wrote a Doctor Who story which was published in 1996. He's been thinking about this stuff for a VERY long time, which is why he's playing what I call the "long con" with the show: he's introduced things which will take several series (seasons) to play out.

While I think that Moffat is at his best writing smaller in scale stories, I've actually enjoy the idea of a run-long arc.

About the redhead... I disagree...

2011-10-20 11:18:29 PM
He writes that logic into an episode... "A Good Man Goes to War"
But from the perspective of a culture that he somehow freaked out, so Doctor there means something entirely different.

SearchN: Lots of us leave hints as to who we are. Hell, a couple of people here know exactly who I am, my real contact info, where I work, ect.

Same here. I'm fine with posting my name. Never had a desire not to.

I'm a RATMM frequenter and fan club member from eons past. It was, however embarrassing it might be to admit, a huge part of my existence. Almost religious. To toast that part of my life, I used this text in my next book's "About the Author" section:

Access to the knowledge core was slow and fragmented, and pieces had strange names like alt.binaries and rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc. These were the next places to explore and they too would eventually be conquered. New names appeared, like Gopher and Mosaic and Netscape. Soon everyone started all conversations with the same three letters: WWW. The Internet grew from a tiny town to a world-spanning empire. Andy feels lucky to have seen it happen.

Here's something pretty freakin' obscure (yeah, even for Fark): Any RATMMers remember "juliewa"?

this is like the old postings JMS made on GEnie a few years before B5 went on the air.

B5 was previously known as TWCBN, unfortunately i wasn't around for that era, only got usenet and internet around the end of the 4th season of B5 after RASTB5 had been handed off to Theron and Buford while the normal people went to RASTB5M. i wonder how upset good ole Buford gets every time he sees JMS name scroll across the screen in 3D. ahh, the good ole days, when flamewars were far more civil, none of those messy blasters like in these uncivilized times.

anyways, i hope moffat put more clues out there 15 years ago!

Truly awesome. I love this place.

She was one of my first virtual crushes (right after Chun-Li, of course). Not only was she an important part of the show, she was funny and engaging in her own right, and part of her job was to spend a lot of time on USENET just talking to the fans. She was also the first time I had exposure to "famous" people - where the average abkaiser could ask questions, and she would actually answer them! Imagine that.

/assume you said "Bad Brains" as a test of my own knowledge

Being showrunner for Doctor Who, Moffat is allowed to use the BBC time machine. So he just nipped back in time and told his younger self to start prepping for the job he'd eventually hold.

Dwight_Yeast: MC Magic Cracker: He wrote the Doctor Who parody that featured Rowan Atkinson and Jennifer Saunders, way before he was showrunner.

As was already pointed out, no, Jennifer Saunders was not in it, but both Joanna Lumley (Patsy) and Julia Sawalha (Saffy) were. Saunders is about the only singificant Absolutely Fabulous actor not to have been in a Doctor Who adventure. June Winfield (Gran) was a member of Wilfred Mott's elderly gang in "The End of Time". Naoko Mori (Saffy's friend,Sarah), of course, went on to be Toshi Sato. Christopher Ryan (Eddie's 2nd ex-husband, Marshall) played Lord Kiv in one of the "Trial of a Timelord" sub-serials, and a couple different Sontarans in a few episodes of the revived era. Kate O'Mara was the Rani long before she portrayed Patsy's sister, Jackie. Kathy Burke (Patsy's chain smoking editor, Magda) played Lazar in "Terminus".

And before that, he wrote a Doctor Who story which was published in 1996. He's been thinking about this stuff for a VERY long time, which is why he's playing what I call the "long con" with the show: he's introduced things which will take several series (seasons) to play out.

Which is where "Let's Kill Hitler"'s Luna University and Professor Candy were introduced. Candy is no fan of the Doctor and his meddling.

I meant to add that RTD used the BBC time machine to go back in time and seduce Oscar Wilde. And Cole Porter.

Adric.

Which is why the Fifth Doctor was adamant that there be no rescue attempt. Also why he got over the sonic being destroyed (it actually wasn't; it blew itself up from shame).
