Canada Pension Plan (new window) keeps buying assets around the world to fund future Canadian pensions. And that's just the surplus funds. Americans, where's your Social Security surplus invested and what's the rate of return?

LOL CPP

being 26, I seriously doubt I will ever collect CPP. Boomers will raid that shiat 'til it's bone dry, then cancel the program.

/company pension? what's that?
//RRSP - self directed, that's it.

There's something odd about seeing CPP involved in all these weird dealings.

I can't say what.

Well, in this case, it's the fact that Yahoo is probably a dead weight and Ballmer said just the other day that he was grateful they did not buy Yahoo.

They are invested in... US government debt, I do believe. They aren't permitted to invest in anything else.

What's that 10 year T-bill rate? 2.2% or thereabouts?

Well yeah, they're buying Yahoo at half price or something. Smart move to back off until they are desperate.

Poor Jerry Yang. Such a colossal fark up. I suspect he's running a Dim Sum catering truck somewhere in LA by now.

Sadly this. My planning assumes that I'll be on my own. If it's still around in 30 years then "Bonus!". Admittedly, CPP is in currently in decent shape and the upcoming rush of boomers is not taking anyone by surprise.

CPPIB was set up to allow the plan to invest in a greater variety of assets. That's how they got 3-4 times their investment back on the sale of Skype to Microsoft. Interestingly it looks like it's that investment group that may be going into the Yahoo thing with MS. I guess they have a degree of comfort with eachother.

I like Yahoo as a rich portal. I hope it survives.

/I have friends who work at CPPIB so I'm getting a kick out of this.

You know, if I'm still healthy enough to hold a job at 90, I'll be pretty happy.

CPP will be solvent for the next 75 years. So, you'll be ok until you hit 101. Then, you start raiding the next generation's funds.

Does this mean that Yahoo Maps will now have Tim Horton's waypoints?
