For all those farkers/farketts that are asking if the head shot was necessary, let me give you a bit of my training. The point of shooting someone is to disable them. If you get the head and he dies, well, he is disabled. End of discussion.

I really fail to see how this is stupid. Pull a gun on someone, and you may get shot if they're armed. Pull a gun on a cop and you most likely will get shot. The fact that she gave him so much warning shows that she acted with the utmost convern to his safety and the safety of those around him. What would have happened if he raised up and started shooting? If the bullets had gone past her and hit someone behind her? Would people ask why she didn't fire?

Oh, on a side note, if someone starts whining about "he had his back turned". Too F*CKING bad. He was drunk, too bad. He waved the gun in the direction of the crowd. If I was there, I would have shot him.

They roam in packs and have a full legal monopoly on coercion. Cops are not just. They don't care what the law is, or about the situations that produce difficulties with actual human beings that are bound to act like human beings. They don't give a rat's ass what principles you subscribe to about your precious private property. They are merely non-moral agents that are a part of leviathan, always existing only to purge those who don't fall in line with the idealist doctrines and appetites of the current ruling class. If you can't defend you and yours against the predations of others, you really shouldn't qualify for citizenship.

Clerk killed in shooting

A convenience store clerk was killed in southwest Houston late Friday by a gunman who ran away with a 12-pack of beer, firing his pistol into the air, police said.

Mohammad Rahman, 35, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, investigators said. Several witnesses were in the store at the time.

The incident happened at 10:40 p.m. Friday inside Pak's Food Store in the 5500 block of Gasmer, an area surrounded by apartments. Police did not disclose whether there was a robbery or some sort of confrontation, but said the gunman ran away after the shooting, fleeing westbound on Gasmer.

Witnesses said he was carrying the beer and fired his gun into the air as he fled. It was not known whether anything besides the beer was stolen.

The store was closed later Saturday afternoon as broken pieces of crime scene tape fluttered from a nearby fence.

The gunman was black, in his early 20s, about 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a thick build. He has long hair and was wearing dark clothes and a bandana, police said.

Any other witnesses are asked to call the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.

As I read it, the stupid tag was meant for the thief, not the cop.

I agree with Poltroon on the intention aspect. The head shot was most likely unintentional. I have had some police training on shooting, unless the person is wearing a vest, you do not generally aim for the head, it is a smaller target than the body mass, and it moves much quicker. This is especially true with bystanders in the area that may be hit by off target rounds.

But I doubt it was her "backup" gun, there were too many witnesses for her to deploy a throwdown weapon.

RTFA. The guy turned towards bystanders with the gun still in his hand. He wasn't necessarily running. The cop was reacting to that. Sounds damn brave to me, she didn't shoot while he was pointing the gun at her, but when he pointed it at innocents... BLAM. She needs a medal.

According to independent witnesses of the incident, the guy didn't turn and run, he turned and pointed his gun at innocent bystanders.

As for the cop not being brave, she stood him down first, while he was already pointing his pistol at her. She could have shot him with justifcation then, and held off. As for roaming in packs, according to the story, it was just her, no group of cops all shooting at once.

I'll leave the rest of your paranoid rantings for someone else to rip up. Til then, buy some more tinfoil.

Cops are taught to shoot to kill. In the event that they are required to pull the trigger, they are not going to take the chance that the suspect will have ANY opportunity to retaliate.

There is no other purpose to shoot someone then to kill them. The person you are shooting is posing a threat to either you or others. If you only wound him he will most likely be able to get plenty of shots off. If someone needs to be shot, they need to be dead.

lonerancher, plus there's always the point that if you are not shooting to kill then if the person dies you'd feel like you did something you didn't mean to do. I was always taught that you shoot to kill because any bullet wound can be potentially fatal.

Having been in a 'live fire' (wax bullets) shoot/dont-shoot exercise with the local cops I can appreciate (somewhat) how freaking hard that situation is -- those of you pissing on the cop should just shut up unless you've been there.
