Another tragic joy buzzer accident.

2011-10-20 10:40:00 AM
Yeah, sweet.

2011-10-20 10:41:01 AM
I hate when people try to make something sweet and romantic, when the Big Picture really isn't.

FTFA: The 94-year-old guy was already facing some kind of action by the Iowa DOT to have his license removed when he caused this accident. It resulted in the deaths of himself and his wife, the minor injuries of the guy in the other car, and the major injuries of the woman in the other car.

The truth: By not keeping off the road, he killed himself and his wife and injured two other people. It's cute the couple held hands while they died, but the overall story is much more of an avoidable tragedy.

Another article I read gave more details on the car accident: the old folks ran a stop sign or red light and got plowed into by oncoming traffic. Apparently the state was in the process of trying to revoke his driver's license.

This is still a sad story, though.

2011-10-20 10:42:31 AM
Aww, who's chopping onions... *sniffle*

2011-10-20 10:42:53 AM
I'd rather die with her holding my junk.

2011-10-20 10:43:07 AM
The crazy broad held on to a corpse for an hour.

Damn necrophiles.

2011-10-20 10:43:59 AM
Poor choice of tag. This is the opposite of sad.

2011-10-20 10:44:23 AM

Yeah, totally sweet. He killed his wife and broke another lady's neck (new window) because he was too stubborn to give up his license:

Clapsaddle was treated and released from Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, but his wife, Barbara, was reportedly transferred to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A man who identified himself as their son, John, said in a comment published on a story on the Times-Republican website that his mother suffered internal bleeding and a broken neck.

"She is currently stable but remains in the critical care unit," he wrote. "There will be a long road ahead for her recovery.

Foolish old asshole

So they were on their way to a farmer's market?

OK, maybe not the opposite, but there has to be a better word for it than sad. We should all be so lucky.

2011-10-20 10:48:06 AM
It's a shame they couldn't have lived long enough to have some pushy, know-it-all, new wive's tale talk show host/shrink/wrestling referee get them past their obvious co-dependency. That's unhealthy.

2011-10-20 10:48:36 AM
This is the first "dusty in here" story on Fark in a long time to really get to me.....

2011-10-20 10:49:02 AM
This is the dumbest sensationalist article ever.

He was 94. She was 90. He was driving a car.

Many couples in car crashes die within an hour of each other. Most of them aren't being as recklessly idiotic as this couple.

Really? Lucky to cause a car wreck and risk 3 innocent lives?

We should all be so lucky.

Death is inevitable. That is a beautiful way to die.

/the holding hands part
//not the car accident

We should all be so lucky.

/sorry about the other folks though, hopefully they pull through
//and the old folks had some good insurance to pay for their injuries

Is Donna going to hold her Sheets when she dies too?

What does being young or old have to do with it? They didn't die an hour apart because they're bodies were so 'in sync' from 70+ years of marriage, they died an hour apart because of a car wreck that sent all 4 of them to the hospital.

My great grandparent's died exactly a week apart (Christmas & New Years) without getting in a car wreck, I find that more of a "we should all be so lucky" scenario than a car wreck

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Mandatory driver's test every year past the age of 65, both written and driven.

/maybe every 6 months at 75

Works for me. And add the same regulation for everybody under 25 who owns a mobile phone.

My uncle and all 84 of his passengers died at the same time. Where's their article on the kinship and solidarity of the human spirit?

Yes driving while distracted is a problem, it's very easily solved...get rid of the distraction. Driving without the ability to drive, i.e. lack of vision, hand/eye coordination, reflex speed, etc. isn't as easily solved. Not quite the same thing there.

I was thinking this when a friend linked it on Facebook last night, was hoping Fark would have it pop up as greened, since not all of my friends understand or agree with my snark.

2011-10-20 11:16:29 AM
Yeah, yawn, whatever,,,,
Saw it plastered on MSN's front page yesterday, figured sooner or later it would show up as a dusty article here.
Lets get back to the serious stuff, like OWS and modified toilet paper holders.

Exactly. Everybody wants to talk about the hand-holding, instead of the maiming at the hands of non-yielding geezers. Smh.

The woman died one hour after the man. She was still holding his hand after he was dead for an hour? Yeesh.

You'd have to pry the magic talking puck out of her cold dead hands. Belligerence is also a disability.

EmperorSled: Driving without the ability to drive, i.e. lack of vision, hand/eye coordination, reflex speed, etc. isn't as easily solved. Not quite the same thing there

No, it isn't. And I'm all for testing people over a given age. Age takes it's toll on all of us and when it's time to sell the car and get a bus pass or the mobile number of a good cabbie, I certainly will. But if some sh*t for brains kids creamed a minivan and croaked in the hospital, holding hands, nobody would be all "There's nothing romantic about this!" Would they? Romeo and Juliet syndrome. And, overall, as far as the couple in the article? Yeah, we all really SHOULD be so lucky to find somebody we like that much. Not just love, like. Because if you marry somebody you don't like, you're f*cked.
