Meh.

If any complete games are released, odds are they'll be the chopped down, edited to fit an NFL Network timeslot versions, not the original, unedited network broadcasts.

Btw, I've seen the awesome but condensed Sabol version. Would be incredibly cool to see the entire game, including that brass player whose bottom lip ripped off when his mouth froze on the instrument.

Other, modern games have been played in terrible weather, but how iconic is that one? Really fun to watch.

But they won't have all of those clever and funny beer commercials I see every Sunday.

I dunno - there are quite a few DVDs of complete games (with only the ads deleted) available. But NFL Films features are well worth seeing - excellent stuff.

I'm looking forward to the Ed Sabol episode of A Football Life tonight.

I love NFL films. I also love good spoofs of it, like Chappelle's "Great Moments in Hookup History."

NFL films could make the worst game in the world feel epic. I've loved those shows since I was a little kid, Glad to see they're expanding to other media forms.. Now if they would just put them on Netflix on-demand, I'd be a happy camper.

A big memory of my childhood was watching Sabol-condensed games prior to kickoff. And in the days leading to the Super Bowl they were aired all day. This was before Terry Bradshaw and Co. spent an eternity talking largely meaningless sh*t before the games.

/has an equal or better straight-up prediction rating than any of the experts at Fox Sports, and I'm just some random dude off the street

And yet, all the money they make from them will be entirely devoted to paying legions of web surfers at NFL headquarters to look for unauthorized videos so that they can make copyright claims. The NFL is trying (and largely failing) to stick to the same model as those at the RIAA- they want to be the sole provider of content or get licensing fees for usage. They'll never learn.

I was surprised to find that Comedy Central is STILL running that show, despite the fact that there were only two real seasons.

If they made all of these available with the NFL Gameday package, I'd buy it for my PS3 in a heartbeat. But, as it currently stands, I can't bring myself to drop the $350 (or whatever it is) for the package, although I'm glad that it is now available through another medium besides DirecTV.

Most of those DVDs are edited down.

Early fade-outs, inexplicable quick cuts, no pre or post game.

It's very rare that an NFL Game DVD runs over 2 hours.

Never saw the nfl films version of a game only the nfl network version but pre/post game has no business in a "game broadcast" DVD.

The NHL greatest game packages start with a brief introduction as to why that game was the greatest, then goes to the opening face off, and plays straight though minus commercials and intermission breaks. Because I'm watching the game. Not the random interviews about whatever nonsense the sideline reporter thought was important that day.

Given that they have the team history clips and quite a bit of game film from back in the day, how has there not been more call for them to try and get stats like sacks right (I know they weren't officialy until the 80's) so we can figure out a better number for Deacon Jones or Buck Buchanon and maybe get better comparisons for people's careers. You gotta figure there are an army of stat geeks willing to watch grainy footage for hours on end for something like this.

Ed Sabol -- you're the greatest.

I was wondering when they would figure this out.

Seemed like an obvious money maker.

dickfreckle: ICE BOWL

A friend of mine passed away recently (RIP Gene). He was at the Ice Bowl. We would ask him about it, and his reply was "I don't remember seeing much, we just huddled together to try and stay warm." His post game memory was much better. They hit every bar from Green Bay to Milwaukee and got home alive somehow.
