The "surrender" joke never gets old. Even after the events of the last decade.

Nicholas immediately gives the babby to Societe General in exchange for another $2 billion loan advance.

What happened in the last decade that was more culturally memetastic than the second bloody World War?

France and "surrender monkey" will always be associated, current acts by the French have no bearing on the meme.

That is so ignorant. How can you Americans be so arrogant? The correct expression is "cheese eating surrender monkeys". Get a brain morans.

I wonder if they'll give the baby a conventional French name. I thought French public figures eschewed the US tradition of naming children after the first object the mother sees after leaving the delivery room, but "Aurelien" sounds odd. Can any Francophile Farkers weigh in on whether Aurelien is considered a strange name in France?

Cough cough, last decade? Cough, cough, Vichy?

Sorry, I like France and have nothing but respect for the Resistance but barring another world war it will be at least another century before that joke gets old.

It's a Francophonization of (Saint) Aurelius, so not really. The French seem to love using the names of obscure saints that nobody else in Christendom has ever heard of for their newborns.

I don't see how that's relevant. I'm sure the child is too young to run for office.

America wrecked itself by devoting all its resources to waging unneccessary wars while the French said "non".

ever since Obama got elected I said that he should have knocked up his wife. If Michelle had taken one for the team his admin could have distracted the media with the entire pregnancy coverage, parallels between Michelle and the last pregnant first lady (Jackie)... that would lead to discussions of Jackie's miscarriage and how someone Michelle's age is at a higher risk for one... the media would spend weeks doing stories on her health and that of the baby.

then there's media speculation about the baby's gender (the Obama's already have girls... will they get the boy this time!), media gushing about an african american baby being born in the white house and what that says about race relations in America should cover a few days of news...

then the baby is born... and you get to leak the first baby photos and bury every other story on the press for that day... then you get your stories abou the baby's Christening and the picking of god parents... baby's first bday...

it would have been the most brilliant political/campaign move evah.

// remember france is home of charlamagne and napolean. they've had their share of trying to take over the world. basically, it works like this, once your culture tries to take over the world twice, well, you've pretty much used up your culture's allotted military badassness.

I think it is a meme perpetuated by Americans who don't want to admit that the American War of Independence was won by the French.
