"Let me tell you, it's not temporary when that 9-1-1 call comes in and a woman's being raped. If a cop shows up in time to prevent the rape, it's not temporary to that woman,"

Biden Evokes Sexual, Violent Imagery Again in Push for $447 Jobs Bill

Now the republicans are offended by things that are mean spirited and demeaning to women? Does it infringe on their monopoly?

/The republican's aren't actually arguing. Argument is an intellectual process. This is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other party says.

What's really scary is the current crop of nominees and their attempts to out-do each other in terms of how "hardcore" they are. They're at the point of claiming that they want to reset financial regulation to pre-Enron levels, while more or less eliminating taxes on the wealthy. For the love of Christ, can you imagine a 9% sales tax on the poor? It would screw them completely. It's about as regressive as you can get.

I'm a lowly quasi state employee. I'd have to take like a week off.

The way Republicans constantly obsess about things being "shoved down American's throats" really doesn't help dispel the whole repressed gay thing they have going.

Someone needs to shock the GOP into funding Police and Firemen.

2011-10-20 04:58:40 AM
Is this the thread where the guy who got an additional 1.6 billion dollars in police funding to address Violence Against Women in an Act of the same name gets labeled as some kinda misogynist?

Or is this the thread where the allegedly "tough on crime" Righties argue against additional police funding cos it's in Obama's job bill?

Either way I'mma makin' popcorn.

Joe Biden has the best smile in DC and therefore all anti-Joe arguments are invalid.

Joe has said many times if he doesn't get what he wants we will pay the consequences.

Frankly, we should all be happy he's content to rape our women. Just for God's sakes, let's give him what he wants before he decides to up the ante.

The wrath of Joe has visited horrors 1,000 times worse on those less fortunate.

So lemme get this straight...

OK: Using imagery of mushroom clouds and planes hitting skyscrapers and such to pass orwellian surveillance laws and trillion dollar defense spending increases.

NOT OK: Using imagery of rapes and murders going unstopped because half the police force has been laid off in order to pass a law that would increase police funding.

Gotcha.

Biden, Lord of the Idiots.

The police are merely responders. If you are smart, you carry a gun! Not ITG, just do the math!!

2011-10-20 06:54:11 AM
Republicans are in favor of cops, to keep the rabble in line, right up until it's time to pay them.

2011-10-20 06:55:17 AM
Why not lay off all the firemen and police?

After all, mentioning what could happen without fire and law services is threatening everyone with victimization, so then absent that reason, and then suddenly there's no reason to have them at all.

2011-10-20 07:01:04 AM
He's partially right, high unemployment correlates strongly with high crime.

However, I think we're all tired of the feds using fear to push policy.

Y'see, in the first case those were actual pictures of mushroom clouds and planes. Joe did something far worse - made you see it in your MiNd.

Herman Cain doesn't understand a whole lot of things, like the fact that 100% of poor people's incomes are spent on goods and services, and that taking 9% out of their incomes is about the same as taking 18% out of the economy for businesses like grocery stores, wallmarts, and *gasp* fast food!.

DarwiOdrade: Poor Fox, did Joe steal your material?

Came to say this. It's annoying to hear Biden use this tripe, but it's exactly the kind of schtick the right-wing loves. And the Faux headline implies that Biden's language is somehow promoting or fantasizing about rape.

FTFA: The Republican National Committee released a memo calling Biden's comments "irresponsible and mean-spirited"

Has the RNC been paying attention to the crazier chunk of their elected congresscritters??

2011-10-20 07:45:16 AM
Hey, you have to be much more forceful in your language to get things done in this day and age. Hell, you practically have to hold old Uncle Sam down to force these bills through, even though you know without a doubt he would benefit, nay love, what you are ramming home. You need to wrestle him down, then begin driving home that legislation, even though you may be up against some tight defenses. You just have to keep the pressure up, and eventually the law slides right through, no matter the screaming and kicking. Then before you know it that funding just explodes out, filling the infrastructure and allowing you a brief burst of joy in the rough and tumble world of politics.

\That's all Biden is saying.

2011-10-20 07:45:22 AM
Republicans clearly like rape, violence, and rape, due to their opposition to abortion even for rape victims as well as redefining rape victims themselves, so I don't see how this will get them to vote for the bill.

What's amusing is that the left has been using the same shtick for decades, while calling the right"the party of fear". I knew the left had won the pr war when they succeeded in projecting even the tactic of projecting upon the right.

The Democrats are currently asking for $5 billion for cops and firefighters while they are asking for $30 billion for teachers. Why do Democrats favor teachers over preventing rape?

Seemed like the context, more police on the street to prevent violent crime, was appropriate for violent imagery...

At least more appropriate than using mouth rape to describe a bill that gives medical care to the poor and uninsurable...

omgwtfetc: How dare he suggest poverty and crime rates are directly proportional? This is an outrage.

Except in the last thread this was shown to be false.

Teachers and emergency are state functions. A one year injection of federal funds only masks the problem for one year. Look at cities like Vallejo, California who are now bankrupt as 80% of funds go directly to paying the above groups pensions. The 31 billion is just sweeping a problem under the rug.

"The President's "jobs" bill doesn't go directly to hire police officers anyway. Instead, it allows states to paper-over budget gaps for another year rather than address their systemic budgetary issues, and protect unionized bureaucrats whose jobs should be on the chopping block."
