FTFA:
"The long-haul truck will cross the border Friday at Laredo, Texas, and head about 450 miles north to Garland, Texas, to deliver industrial equipment"

So, I assume Texas Governor Rick Perry will be there for the photo op?

I can't wait for one of these drivers to fall asleep at the wheel and murder a busload of nuns in front of a CNN news truck...

What is sad is that he is right. OWS sad because there aren't any good jobs here? Blame NAFTA, GATT and the globalists.

Too bad the widget factory went out of bidness and you can't work there anymore.

Now your trucking job will be taken away because it is a job you didn't want to do for pennies.

Allowing Mexican trucking companies to deliver the goods rather than transfer them onto U.S. haulers at the border will put American jobs ... at risk

OK, I can see that.

I've been on a bus in Mexico. I see their point.

You know who buys all the 18 wheel rigs that are deemed unsafe by the US DOT? Mexican trucking companies.

I was last in Mexico in 1990. I have no desire to return.

I rode a bus from Mexico City to Salamanca, sitting in the front seat across from the driver. Had a clear view through the front windshield.

Big mistake. Most terrifying ride of my life.

When those farkers want to pass on a narrow two-lane road, they didn't bother to wait for a break in oncoming traffic - they just blew their horns, flashed their lights and headed straight up the middle of the center line, expecting traffic in BOTH directions to move onto the shoulder to make room.

They say don't drink the water, but nothing, NOTHING will make you shiat your pants like a Mexican bus ride.

How's my driving? Call 1-800-NO-HABLO

I'm definately concerned about highway safety issues with this. I also expect American truckers to not react well. 3 trucks abroad doing 5mph down an interstate to protest, clogging highway truck stop entrances, posibly even worse...

2011-10-19 10:59:10 PM
this deal keeps getting worse.

Savoir-Faire: You know who buys all the 18 wheel rigs that are deemed unsafe by the US DOT? Mexican trucking companies.

I know this sounds naive, but wouldn't said trucking companies have to comply with USDOT if they want to use our roads? I mean, that sounds like the kind of thing I'd work into such an agreement if *I* were running the show here....

2011-10-19 11:00:07 PM
Assuming that the drivers will be Mexican citizens and not US citizens, will police in the South pull over any truck and suspect them of being in the country illegally?

2011-10-19 11:01:14 PM
I wonder what kind of radio they listen to?

I can hear thousands of independent truckers, who have spent lots of money keeping their trucks up to code, screaming as they lose business to the cheaper Mexican trucks.

I used to drive truck into Laredo, it was easy to spot the Mexican trucks. You also had to make sure the trailer you picked up had all its lights and tires.

2011-10-19 11:04:54 PM
I have an idea. Instead of OWS, what if all those people wanting to protest gathered at the two major entry points for illegal aliens instead--- and put a cork in the flow of illegal immigration for a while? (I'm an interpreter; I know exactly where they are. Fence? We don't need no stinking fence....)

See conservatards? Mexican trucks drivers will do the jobs that American truck drivers won't do (because they'll go to jail for not keeping their trucks to code) Don't you see butthurt conservatives? They're playing on a level playing field.

Yes, they are. When this legislature was originally introduced years ago, it suggested they dont have to follow the same standards, but they now do. This has been in the works for a long time-- DRFTA

A good chunk of my family crossed the Mexican border to pick fruit in the US less than 70 years ago. My father was born here. He was a trucker and Teamster.
You know what? fark this plan.

This is *not* a case of Jobs That Americans Will Not Do. Trucking is one of a decreasing number of fairly steady, well paying jobs out there. Yet another middle class job outsourced. All this does is increase profits for companies that don't even pay any damn taxes anyhow. Each of those jobs lost is another foreclosed home. Another person on unemployment. Another person on food stamps. One less person contributing to the US economy.

This is the opposite of job creation, ffs.

Well, first world countries vs third world shiathole. It's not too hard to see why some would have a problem with that. Not to mention, Canada probably has some strict pay and safety regulations that Mexico doesn't have.

2011-10-19 11:13:52 PM
A professional truck driver can get his license to drive (CDL) permanently canceled for things like having two logbooks (actual driving time book, and a faked driving time book). I wonder if that will happen to the Mexican drivers - if they even know or care about US CDL driving regulations. And the vehicle safety... yeah, clusterfark..

a government that allowed and encouraged this to take place is a blatant traitor to the people they are supposed to serve.

very wealthy very powerful people make certain their very wealthy very powerful family & friends network remains very very. nothing new.

peaceful protests will change not a thing. i wish Americans coast to coast the best in halting this bullshiat. the fapsters of WashDC are perfectly content to allow the USA to decay into a third world shiat-hole. this oversight needs to be corrected asap. peaceful protests will not change a thing.

I would hope their truckers would be better, but having spent some time in El Paso, I'll tell you straight up that every native latino in the city will admit that the Aliens, legal or otherwise, can't drive for shiat. They will cut you off, stop at green lights, and make left turns from the far right lane during rush hour. Its a scary place to be driving. Lord help you if it drizzles and the roads get the tiniest bit slick.

Oh, rubbish. There ain't anybody at an OWS protest who wants to work a line job in a widget factory. Try paying off your $100,000 in student loans at $8 to $14 an hour.

Anyway, most of those jobs were taken by robots. Free trade is a fraction of the lost manufacturing jobs, and the impact of NAFTA and GATT is insignificant; US tariffs were already so low that those low-skill jobs would have gone overseas regardless.

That's one truck too many. Get rid of the humans in the truck, scuttle the truck, seize the cargo.

Drop the bodies back in Mexico.
