Aren't all pizzas known as "Pizza Pies"?

santadog: Aren't all pizzas known as "Pizza Pies"?

Around here people just call 'em pizzas. Not pizza pies.

I bet a lot of farkers would be hard pressed to agree with Scalia on anything.

2011-10-19 05:47:49 PM
Scalia is not the Supreme Court

2011-10-19 05:51:15 PM
Well, I agree. Of course, I'm not real fond of deep dish pizza.

I agree with him on this.
Chicago style is great; it's delicious and it's filling, but it is not pizza.

It's only in matters of law that I think he's off his rocker.

Chicago "pizza" is a casserole, just like 99% of all Midwest cuisine.

2011-10-19 06:25:50 PM
And Scalia shouldn't be called a "Supreme Court Justice". The correct term is "corporatist whore".

Ahhhhhh... the pizza thread. A staple of the Fark community.

As we all know, Chicago Deep Dish is not pizza. It is a bowl of bread with cheese and sauce and meat chucked in there. While it has it's place on the menu, it is most certainly not pizza. This is a fact and not up for debate. If you disagree, you are wrong and you should seek help for your wrongness.

If you continue calling that gut-busting pile of crap "pizza", we just might have to nuke Chicago.

If you do, I recommend the cross of St. Peter (AKA the Petrine Cross). Really brings out that indescribable suffering crucifixion fans crave.

So the answer to the question of whether it's good or bad is: "Yes"?

Tomato pie is not Chicago pizza casserole. It is a delightful pie made with a rather thick crust and tomato sauce with herbs. It was invented in Utica, NY, and I wish that I had one at present. Scalia is wrong again. Color me shocked.

Come on now. That's very unfair. To rat rectums.

jake_lex: All I know is that a "Chicago style" hot dog should be called "a farking mess no one should eat"

That's not a hot dog. Some dumbass went an added a hot dog to a salad is what that is.

Went to Chicago with the wife a couple of years ago. Had "the best" chicago deep dish pizza (according to everybody we asked), and we thought that it sucked. Then we went to have "the best" hot dog around (according to everybody we asked) and also thought that it sucked.

Not sure what this means, or where i'm going with this, other than i thought the food sucks.

Best meal we had there was The Melting Pot.

Came to make snarky "original intent" of Italians comment. Saw that it was taken care of in the article.

Carry on.

/Looks like I found the one thing Scalia and I can agree on.

We add strippers and blow to our hot dogs. They are fantastic.

...this is why we can't have civilized discussions on Fark. If people are willing to lie like this about what constitutes pizza, how the hell are we supposed to figure out what the hell are we supposed to figure out who on the Politics tab is a troll?

RexTalionis: FloydA: Chicago style is great; it's delicious and it's filling, but it is not pizza.

I consider it a casserole,

While possibly correct, in that casserole refers to the name of the dish, rather than the preparation, casseroles most typically have only a top crust, unlike a Chicago wossname, which has only the bottom crust. Thus, "casserole" may not be the best term for it.

I submit that, due to the bottom crust and the mix of fillings and cheese, the dish should properly be called a Chicago-style Tomato Quiche.

Born and raised in Chicago, and most people I grew up with here prefer thin crust.

Deep dish is for the tourists and suburbanites.

As long as we're on the topic of misnamed comestibles, most of what the country calls "Mexican food" is neither.

I like Chicago style pizza, like NY style, too. Hell I even like Dominos.

IMO eating pizza is like getting a hummer. Some is better than others, but they're all pretty good.

Never had a deep dish in my life.

Pizza has a thin crust with Italian Sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions.

To be a quiche, it has to have its ingredients bound together by a custard.
