Maybe the kid has read what happens in Florida here on FARK and realized that DisneyWorld was in the heart of Florida.

I live in Chattanooga, so I will be getting a kick out of this thread.

/Chattanooga really is a great place to visit or live
//Still suspect most kids would prefer Disney World
///But, please: do come spend your dollars here visit us
////I give free tours and massages to select Farkettes (send pic to expedite selection process)

Because this wasn't staged or anything. And certainly not a viral video paid for my the Chattanooga Tourism Authority.

I saw this on the local news this morning. I live just south of Chattanooga so I'll get some kicks here too.

Terrell Owens graduated from Chattanooga.
Terrell Owens was a diva and is currently suicidal.

Thus, being from Chattanooga makes you suicidal.

I have a two year old. We're going to fly out from California next year (he'll be three) and we'll stay at the hotel at the old train station and go to the aquarium. That kind of thing is right up his alley.

He isn't in to Disney yet and doesn't have any idea what he'd be missing at Disney World.

Oh, and "Surprise, you're going to Disney World" videos are lame and overdone.

I prefer having a rocket for skyline rather than a big golden ball. Not that the World's Fair ball is part of the skyline. I'm half a mile away from it and I never see it.

I was taking my little nephew to Chatanooga, but i decided to play a mean trick. i pulled up next to an old, burned down warehouse. "Oh no," i said. "Chatanoogaburned down." He started crying, and i was about to tell him it was all a joke and drive to the real Chatanooga, but it was getting kinda late.

I went there when they had a poisonous insect exhibit. It was cool and terrifying...plus, sturgeon!

I just spent 8 days there, and I've been to Disneyland over 100 times in the last two years, and I'd rather go to Chatanooga than Disney World in the next 12 months.

That's awesome. The next time I get the urge to take the kids to BFE TN, I'll have to try that one out!

Makes me wonder how much hype the parents gave the kids about Chattanooga prior to the big reveal. When I was a child, we'd drive through Chattanooga on our car trips. Seeing the signs for Ruby Falls and Rock City made me want to go, and we never did. Always disappointed me. The little girl is probably disappointed that she won't get the she the Chattanooga she built up in her mind.

2011-10-19 09:14:50 PM
The girl doesn't need to go to Disney World or Chattanooga, she just needs to go to her room and/or get a good nap in.

And parents, don't lie to your kids, even if you think the surprise would be more exciting. Don't lie to your kids.

/unless it was staged
//hey kids, time to pay for our vacation! Just act like a brat and pretend you want to go to Chattanooga!

The newer saltwater part is even cooler. They have a place to pet rays and a butterfly garden at the top.

They have an aquarium at Disney, too, in Epcot. The second largest saltwater aquarium in the world.

For an extra $150, you can take guided snorkeling or scuba tours.

I have some more advice... if you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you'll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy.

Ah, the memories of the long awaited trip to Disneyworld (for the kids) linger still.

Before the ride: why do we have to stand in line for so long? How come those people get to cut in line? I have to go to the bathroom. This place sucks, let's go back to the hotel and use the pool.
After the ride: That was it? We waited all that time for this? This place sucks, let's go back to the hotel and use the pool.

And years later when I bring up the vacation to the kids in conversation, what do they talk about? How the people walking around in the costumes smelled bad. And how cool Sea World was, which we went to at the end of the week. (We should have gone to Sea World every day, Dad)

I went through the drawers recently and came across some Disney momentos. I remember how expensive they were, and how I tried to get mrs varmitydog not to buy them, and how she told me not to be a cheapskate. Then I put them in the box for the church yard sale. And they put them in the dumpster at the end of it when they couldn't sell them.

About 4 hours into the 15 hour car trip to Disneyworld, I pass through Chattanooga. Never once has it occurred to me to call the trip finished at that point.

In CHA, too, great place to entertain family - Outdoor Chattanooga, River Walk, longest pedestrian bridge, Incline Railway, museums, History all around, Goony Golf, free electric shuttle, IMax, art galleries, sculpture on Main St, all good, and for much less $$ than Walt's place. Plus the water smells better in TN than in FL.

We have a convention and visitor's bureau, not a Tourist Authority.

I love Chatanoogie. The wife and I stop there on our drives to Ft. Lauderdale every year. I love the Reading House Hotel and the bars and food there are top notch. I love the people there and the air is clean and they also have a kick ass Acquarium..sorry about my spelling ... still shivering after walking home in the 50 winds with blowing rain and lost umbrellas.

I've tried singing that song to a few co-workers who I thought would get it.
They didn't.
Took too long to explain to them.
/ I no longer sing that song to anyone.

I still think these are beautiful, American artworks. Some may biatch that it ain't art since Ruby Falls and Rock City paid farmers to paint these, hey, it's American!

And the OLD ones look great to those who appreciate entropy.

I just drove through Chattanoogie today. I like the town.

If you stay in a hotel, stay at the Delta Queen. It's an old paddleboat hotel. The rooms are tiny, the WiFi sucks, but the rooms are relatively cheap, it's right on the river (duh), and it's completely steampunk.

The aquarium was really cool. My parents took me and my siblings there when we were little.

They had catfish that were 5 ft long ("Wow! He's taller than me! He can eat me!"), some platypus ("They don't lay eggs, that's stupid."), and an albino alligator ("Pretty!").

I can't wait to take my little one there in the future.

I just went on vacation to Chattanooga, so I'm getting a kick out of this thread.

I have a 5 year old who loves trains, so we stayed in the traincar at the Chattanooga Choo-choo hotel and he loved it. Also went to Rock City (very relaxing appreciate the beauty of nature kind of thing) and Ruby Falls (tallest discovered underground waterfall open to the public in the world, when you reach the falls you are 1,000 feet under the surface of the mountain). He loved the falls so much that he cried when we had to leave.

Also did the aquarium... it's... ok.

Overall, he thought it was WONDERFUL and as a parent that's what you are going for.

He has been to Disney and enjoyed that as well, but at the end of the vacation, we asked if he could go on vacation anywhere, what would he want to do? His answer: Sleep in the train again.

Never been to Chattanooga, but I have been to Asheville NC. How well do they compare? Asheville has great microbrews and food all over, mountain air, and a cosmopolitan feel that is hard to find in Appalachia. Is Chattanooga similar?

/I'm also aware that some televangelist has some big church or something near Asheville, but that doesn't take much away from them.

Same thing happened when my friends asked their kids if they'd rather go to Disney World or Mardi Gras. New Orleans won.

They loved the parades and the beads. Plus you don't get to drink Shirley Temples at grown-up bars at Disney World.

I am proud of these kids because they have resisted the programming by Disney Pervert World.

I'd probably leave those two brats at the rest stop.

Mommy and Daddy are going to Paris!

hah not quite. I used to spend my days there during the summer in the late 60's. My sis worked there and I got to ride fro free. Mrs White ran it back then.
yeah Chatt is an okay place to visit. They have the mountains. great caves, world class hang gliding. the incline railway. the river, the aquarium. lots of old civil war parks and such.
Hell they even have a lower than national avg unemployment right now. with a new VW plant now running and huge Amazon distribution center coming.
