I liked Bowie in Labyrinth. I did not like Bowie in The Prestige. Anyone see Andre 3000 in Semi-Pro? No? It's probably best that way.

Lindsey Lohan in court?

This. Also, I liked The Postman, and it was fun to see Tom Petty in it for the brief moment that he was.

Sting is in there. All is right in the world.

As a lifeling Dead Kennedys fan Jello Biafra's appearance in "Tapeheads" is just embarassing.

Henry Rollins in "The Chase" was a nice terrible warm-up for him in "Bad Boys II."

I like Hank, and he is getting marginally better, but at times it's just painful.

Pearl Jam's cameo in "Singles" wasn't that stellar either.

Exactly. A movie that uses that many muppets is not going to have oscar-caliber acting. Bowie was a good villian for that flick. I think that the reviewer was just too distracted by Bowie's junk to enjoy the movie for the lightweight, campy fun that it was supposed to be.

I don't usually do this but this list sucks.

/I liked Bowie in Labyrinth. Also, hating on a musician for a cameo is just stupid.

Does subby really think Mariah Carey and Madonna qualify as "musicians"?

Screw you, author. Mos Def is great.

Mos def in Italian Job? I had no idea he was a rapper (or who he was at all), but I don't recall his performance in that film being particularly bad.

David Bowie in Labyrinth? Liked it, and he was amusing in it. It was supposed to be campy and goofy, what's the problem?

This list strikes me as a good example of why people hate film critics.

Michael Hutchence as Percy Shelley in Roger Corman's Frankenstein Unbound was pretty terrible.

Yeah, I didn't see either of the movies that he made this list for, but I did see 16 Blocks, and I thought he was pretty good in that.

Came in to comment on David Bowie in Labyrinth, sees that it has already been taken care of by others.

Bowie also makes the "Best Screen Performance" list, for this:

Henry was great in Sons of Anarchy, however, so he gets a pass

Mos Def gets a pass for picking really farking weird movies and roles. Also for being one of the few respectable hip hop artists left.

Was Beyonce on the list? She is a talented singer and sexy as hell, but my God, she is one of the worst, laziest actresses I've ever seen. I can't recall any actor, musician or not, that puts in less effort onscreen than her.

And a kid's movie, no less! Bowie was perfect for Labyrinth.

Also, are we counting musicians' SNL appearances? That could be a long farking list.

What? No mention of Iggy's understated, nuanced, subtle and delicate performance in the Crow II?

Add in Ice-T and you have the suckfest known as "Johnny Mnemonic"

1) Sting was awesome in "Dune."
2) Mos Def Twice? Really?
3) Hey, man, Hank was great in "The Chase!" (Well...okay, "great" is far from the correct term, but he deserves no place on this list.)
4) Okay, yeah, "Bad Boys Two."
5) Keane Reeves sucks, but he was alright for "Point Break."
6) So was Kiedis.
7) Do Not Diss David Bowie.

/Also, have not seen "Tapeheads." Love Biafra, but would not be surprised if he was...um...well, Not Good.

/Loved "Lost Highway."

Bukharin: Mic Jagger in Freejack

No, Mick Jagger in Ned Kelly was far, FAR worse.

Missing from the list:

Alice Cooper in Wayne's World.
Billy Idol in The Wedding Singer
Ozzy Osbourne in Trick or Treat

/Should probably include Roger Daltry in Vampirella & Ringo Starr in Caveman, but the movies themselves were abysmal. Their presence didn't make it that much worse.

2011-10-19 06:07:13 PM
Iggy Pop in The Crow 2?
Mos Def in Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
Mick Jagger in Freejack?
Paul McCartney in Give My Regards to Broad Street?

So subjective

/Also, Jennifer Lopez was an actor before a pop star. Not that she's particularly good at either. By including her, you could also include Shatner in any number of movies/TV shows because he released some horrible novelty albums.

Was kinda disappointed with that movie. Couldn't get Stranger in a Strange Land out of my head the whole time.

But the tail in that flick was nice enough to put up with having to see Rip Torn's junk...

Good find - but the difference is J-Ho was FAMOUS as an actress long before she was known as a pop star. She should be on a list of shiatty actresses who became shiatty pop stars, not the other way around.

/But then again, Britney Spears was an "actress" on Mickey Mouse Club
/Perhaps I protest too much

You shut up about Sting in Dune. He WILL kill you!

2011-10-19 06:23:07 PM
First and foremost, the Labyrinth script was trash and Bowie did exceptionally well with what he had.
Second and foremost, Mos Def is among the better rappers turned actors.

Sounds like this list was gleaned from whatever movies the author could think of at the moment. Perhaps if they bothered to do a little research they'd have come up with something better than musicians acting in lousy movies.

Here's an actual list.
1. Mick Jagger - Freejack - Yeah, the movie sucked but he didn't do it any favors.
2. Snoop Dog - Starsky and Hutch - Oh looks it's Snoop playing himself... poorly.
3. Eminem - 8 Mile - There's nothing worse than watching somebody try to act.
4. Jennifer Lopez - Everything - She's mastered the Eminem approach to acting. Memorize lines, say lines, and complain about trailer when not shooting.
5. Britney Spears - How I Met Your Mother - "Look at me! I'm Britney Spears!"

Sting did a decent job playing a deranged creep in Brimstone and Treacle. Nothing Oscar-worthy, mind you. He was still being cast for who he was rather than what he could do, but it's a fitting role.

I'm not sure why Bowie is in there. Yeah, it's a cheesy film for teenage girls or people who enjoy looking at Bowie's penis for half a movie, but he doesn't give a performance worthy of mockery. He's basically there to look 80's-cool and sing, and the fact that he can act is a bonus.

As far as worst role by a musician goes, that has to be Nick Cave in Johnny Suede. Ha, just kidding that was awesome.

2011-10-19 06:36:02 PM
Madonna was a good in Dick Tracy. I suspect a constant diet of Warren Beattys peter kept her happy and directable.

2011-10-19 06:37:24 PM
Also like David Bowie in Into the Night. He was smooth, small part but well done.
