The 3$ per hour pay cut I received as a direct result of the 2008 economic collapse is the only statistic I need....

It's pretty funny that "American politics simultaneously mov[ing] rightward toward a greater embrace of free-market capitalism" ultimately resulting in the largest loss of wealth in the history of the world, and a situation that is eerily reminiscent of the 1930s which presaged the loss of human life on a scale that had never been seen before, is considered a good thing in this guy's mind.

So his argument is "we were better off. Till we weren't." I think I'd go for more modest, sustainable growth instead of "embracing the free market" more. I think the country needs to move towards a freer market like I need a heroin habit.

Average wages have stagnated for the past 40 years while CEO pay is at record levels.

They can't explain that.

2011-10-19 11:07:19 AM
oh, this should be good...

2011-10-19 11:09:29 AM
Just think for a second: If inequality had really exploded during the past 30 to 40 years, why did American politics simultaneously move rightward toward a greater embrace of free-market capitalism?

Wait, I thought that it has moved leftward toward soshulizm and over-regulation of free-market capitalism, which is what's killing the economy. I'm so confused.

When various statistical quirks are harmonized between the two economic measures,

Bullshiat flag.

traditional measures of inequality ignore how inflation affects the rich and poor differently:

Bullshiat flag.

income statistics miss a lot, such as the value of government programs and the impact of taxes.

Bullshiat flag.

Set all the numbers aside for a moment. If you've lived through the past four decades, does it really seem like America is no better off today?

Ridiculous bullshiat flag.

There's massaging the numbers, and then there's giving the numbers a happy ending.

Marcus Aurelius: Average wages have stagnated for the past 40 years while CEO pay is at record levels.

They can't explain that.

It's all right there dude...

median real household income-as reported by the Census Bureau-grew just 0.49 percent per year between 1979 and 2007 even as worker productivity grew four times faster at 1.95 percent per year. The wide gap between the two measures, if accurate, would suggest wealthy households rather than middle-class families grabbed most of the income gains from faster productivity.

But Gordon explained that this "compares apples with oranges, and then oranges with bananas." When various statistical quirks are harmonized between the two economic measures, Gordon found middle-class income growth to be much faster

You just haven't been harmonizing your various statistical quirks, dummy.

This is not a news article. It's even a blog. Its pure propoganda.

With funding from conservative foundations and large corporations, AEI is one of the richest and most influential think tanks in the U.S. Areas of concern include both foreign and domestic policy, including global warming.

AEI promotes neo-conservative ideals and has close ties to the current Bush Administration. On February 26, 2003 President Bush was the key-note speaker at the American Enterprise Institute. He enthused that, at AEI, "Some of the finest minds of our nation are at work on some of the greatest challenges to our nation. You do such good work that my administration has borrowed twenty such minds. I want to thank them for their service" (Quoted by J. Pilger (2004) the Case for Civil Disobedience in Tell Me Lies Propaganda and Media Distortion in the Attack on Iraq, ed. D. Miller, Pluto Press, p25) AEI has been an avid opponent of the Kyoto protocol, as well as most other environmental regulations. AEI climate science skeptics include James K. Glassman, also of ExxonMobil-funded Tech Central Station. ExxonMobil CEO Lee Raymond is on the AEI board of trustees. ExxonMobil gave AEI approximately $925,000 between 1998 and 2003.

What? A think tank founded by republicans thinks that something that makes their rich overlords look bad is wrong?

I'm shocked

What income disparity? Once you harmonize statistical quirks and note how traditional measures of inequality are wrong and income isn't that big a deal and set aside numbers for a moment, there's no income disparity!

They would have been better off had they stopped at 4. Then #5 comes along and it's "income equality is a myth because doesn't it seem like America is alright?"

Hey now! I was told there would be no math!

At least we know the new talking points. But they might have trouble getting ahead of this without charts. Where are my charts damnit!

Some more fun stuff. Looks like these guys are very well funded.

This means that real inequality in America, if you measure it correctly, has been roughly unchanged." And why is that? China and Wal-Mart. Lower-income families spend a larger share of income than wealthier families on goods whose prices are more directly affected by trade. Higher income folks, by contrast, spend more on services which are less subject to foreign competition.

Oh how my heart bleeds for those higher income folks who are forced to buy all those fancy products not affected by foreign competition. If only there were something they could do about it.

"Remember when even upper-middle class families worried about staying on a long distance call for too long? When flying was an expensive luxury? When only a minority of the population had central air conditioning, dishwashers, and color televisions? When no one had DVD players, iPods, or digital cameras? And when most Americans owned a car that broke down frequently, guzzled fuel, spewed foul smelling pollution, and didn't have any of the now virtually standard items like air conditioning or tape/CD players?"

And refrigerators. You forgot about refrigerators. These fat cat poors are able to keep their caviar chilled.

Just think for a second: If inequality had really exploded during the past 30 to 40 years, why did American politics simultaneously move rightward toward a greater embrace of free-market capitalism?

Because the Republican's realized they'd never win on their economic platform and gathered every whackjob social issue under their umbrella to secure a rabidly dogmatic evangelical base?

Ah, the Big Lie. Somebody studied their classics.

"...in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods."

Still, I can't help but notice that the Derp Brigade is curiously absent. Have we stumbled on a piece of right-wing agitprop even they won't defend?
