If you're expecting to ride high unemployment levels into the white house in 2012 you shouldn't make fun of the unemployed at your debates.

Morons.

Don't blame Wall Street. Don't blame the big banks. If you don't have a job and you're not rich, blame yourself.

Well, he's right. I mean, all those tax cuts gave the job creators the money to create jobs. If you didn't get on of them, it's your own damn fault.

This country is about 3 steps beyond doomed.

Look, we gave your employer tax cuts. We gave him plenty. And that should have turned your $30,000/year into $300,000/year. I have the chart right here. It's clearly all your fault that didn't happen.

What? He laid you off to hoard his money instead of creating jobs? Well that's impossible, that wouldn't ever happen. Look, it must all be your fault. Not the job creator's fault.

At this point, as a Canadian, I can say that I would actually almost like to see a Republican in the White House, just because you people really deserve it. And the implosion would be epic.

But then that is kind of mean.

You realize that 90% of you live within 100 miles of the US border and your economy is incredibly linked the the US economy. You really want an imploded US?

Isolated incident. Also, that bit about your health insurance premiums tripling for worse insurance? Also isolated.

"Wall Street didn't put in failed economic policies. Wall Street didn't spend a trillion dollars that didn't do any good. Wall Street isn't going around the country trying to sell another $450 billion. They ought to be over in front of the White House taking out their frustration."

uh, you might want to double-check that, herm.

It's always a good idea to tell 16.7% of America that the reason they are unemployed or underemployed is because they are lazy. That'll win you votes.

Ironic, one of the main points of OWS is the banks gambled many trillions of other peoples money, engaged in massive fraud and crashed the economy all by themselves. None of that happened under the current administration but lets just say the protestors should be at the Whitehouse anyway. Sadly this argument will actually fly with some people.

Don't forget the bailouts. When regular people fark up royally they get fired. Banks get bailed out.

So, its my fault when I send out fifty applications to fifty high school level min wage entry jobs, get two interviews and don't get picked up for either.

It's my fault that there are so few people hiring that the competition to get a job is steep, making getting a job nearly impossible.

I can't imagine what it's like being an unemployed teabagger right now.

A few months ago you were like a rock star at the meetings. The Usurper in Chief done took yer job and now you can't get a new one because of the socialisms. Everyone would nod their heads and pat you on the back. It's not your fault buddy. You want to work but there just aren't any jobs.

Now you trot that line out and everyone is booing you. It's your own damn fault, fool. GET A JOB

You know, there are companies out there creating jobs.

Check out Ford, recently announcing it will be creating 7000 new jobs in the next 2 years in Detroit.

http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2011/01/10/ford-adding-7000-new-jobs/

I know you guys are all about regulation, regulation, bail out, bail out, MOAR GOVERNMENT but look at little old Ford. It didn't need bail out money from the government and there it is creating jobs. And if the government had allowed the other two to fail, they'd be able to take the best and the brightest from them, and another car company (perhaps a clean energy alternative?) would have risen up to take it's place.

BOOOO LARGE GOVERNMENT. BOOOOO.

You realize that Ford was very clear at the time that if GM and Chrysler failed, they would fail too, since the entire supply system they depend on would collapse, don't you?

ford was one of the largest proponents for the auto bailouts because had GM and/or chrysler failed, pretty much every one of ford's suppliers would have gone tits up with them.

I'd go to Washington as well as Wall Street, but I'd go over to the Federal Reserve. They create the financial bubbles.

No, Ron, the boom and bust cycle is directly linked to the deregulation of the investment firms and banks which existed before the Great Crash and which began again in the 1980s. Is this ignorance because libertarians don't know history or because they choose to ignore it?

2011-10-19 11:39:56 AM
The unemployed should have never lobbied Congress to deregulate Wall St. and the banks. They should admit they were wrong and then go find a job that isn't available.

Yep. Ford is totally bootstrappy and would never take any government incentive (new window) to expand it's business.

Let me guess: You probably believe Reagan was a fiscal conservative to, right?

Yeah it's all fun and games until President Chucklefark decides that the quickest way to stimulate the economy and decrease the US' dependence on foreign oil would be to invade Alberta.

I find American politics fascinating/entertaining too, but in all seriousness, if the US collapses, we go with it. Not only are we tied to them economically, but we have a Prime Minister who secretly wishes he could be a Republican. While Americans are debating how to get break free from the 2 party system, get the money out of politics and bring in public campaign financing, one of the first things Harper did when he got his majority was pass a bill to phase out public financing here. And I bet 99% of Canadians didn't even notice. It's the first step to making our campaign finance system more like the US's. I won't be surprised if he changes the rules to allow corporate donations before the next election.

If someone is out of work (when they previously were employed), and it's their fault, they can't get UI.

Anyone who gets UI is, by definition, "unemployed through no fault of their own."

Do we have stats on how many of the actually un- (or under-)employed folks collect UI and how many do not?

Also, this line of logic is retarded.

You know what, though? I'm willing to meet you business-humping farkwits halfway. you claim that CEOs, not aggregate demand, create jobs?

Fine. Cut every CEO's pay $50k/year to hire one employee - every CEO making $5M year or more, we're asking for a 1% tax to go DIRECTLY to job creation with your company. No dice?

Then fark you. You don't care about job creation, you care about letting people's greed unbalance and sicken the economy. 400 people in this country control more wealth than half of us - and they're rich enough that even if your kids and grandkids never do business with them, their grandkids will drink from gold-plated bottles and have 6 full-nannies to change them.

What we're asking for is some pain on the upper end of the scale. We've been feeling kicked in the crotch every hour of every day for years; it's time you felt a pinprick once a week.

Which business is going to go out on a limb to hire people and kick the demand cycle off?

It just depresses me. It shows how bought and paid for the media really is, and how we have zero journalistic integrity left at the highest levels, that these loons have any kind of traction. Their entire existence is astroturfed through false legitimacy, assuming that because they have an opinion, it is therefore automatically valid and treated with the same level of respect and acceptance as something substantial.

And those infantile neanderthals who eat it up, who never once bother to question the validity? There is no hell deep enough for consigning your higher intellect, your ability to think for yourself, to some idiot on America's Next Top Politician (TELL ME those debates aren't game shows...the model is identical). Those people who want to be told what to think, how to think, when to think it, and how to act on those dependant thoughts, they are the most destructive force because they have allowed these politicians a platform for their vile hatred.

GW Bush was infinitely better than the current crop, and that's a terrifying thing to say. At least he ran on an idiotic (and ultimately untrue, in the end) platform of "I'm a uniter", instead of the current trend of "fark over everyone who isn't you".

Yeah, it all started when Anderson brought up a Cain discussion where he said he could understand Israel doing a prisoner trade with Palestine, and everyone started beating the NO NEGOTIATION WITH TERRORISTS drum. Paul jumped in and pointed that out and the entire room went silent until people started babbling excuses. Farking hilarious.
