awesome

Damn, that was the most heavy, out of control, rock and roll performance I've seen all my life.

2011-10-19 10:36:28 AM
A Michael Winslow video? Is it 1985 again?

2011-10-19 10:37:11 AM
I knew Michael Winslow was good. But I didn't know he was that good. His voice box must be a farking Gibson Les Paul...

2011-10-19 10:39:00 AM
Holy shiat I was expecting goofy/dumb, not mindblowingly awesome

meant to add this to my previous comment (so it wasn't completely completely asinine).

Dude is good. I had forgotten how good.

'Cause.....damn.

2011-10-19 11:07:46 AM
He was always my favorite part of the Police Academy movies.

GibbyTheMole: Sure, he's a one trick pony... but it's a damn good trick.

Indeed.

That gave me the bleeps, the sweeps and the creeps.

I came here to say that Winslow gets progressively less funny every time I see him.

This was pretty awesome. It wasn't funny at all but it was definitely impressive.

There's a lotta awesome there. But, I think the best part for me was the tuning of the drum set at the beginning.

Can you imagine what that guy's house sounds like during the day? He must be a real pain to live with.

I bet he never speaks at home. Just deafening, all encompassing silence - possibly in that deprivation chamber from "Altered States", until it's time for work.

The man himself says it best during his stand-up routine : Don't piss me off, because I make N-O-I-S-E-S.

Guess he had some kind of distortion/effects control in the hand not holding the mic, right?

/Still impressive.
//Should've done "El Bimbo"

Did look like he reached out his foot to hit a distortion pedal, but yeah, it is still impressive.

2011-10-19 12:49:44 PM
Not a distortion pedal, simple echo/reverb. That's all he needs.

2011-10-19 12:53:26 PM
I thought he had officially changed his name to "That Black Guy from the Police Academy Movies who Does Sound Effects".

2011-10-19 01:46:30 PM
Wow. Micheal has better guitar tone than half the guitarist I've met in the past few years.

2011-10-19 01:48:40 PM
I saw him live in 1989, half of his routine involved him doing songs. This was good, but his Hendrix impersonation was even better.

mhd: Guess he had some kind of distortion/effects control in the hand not holding the mic, right?

No. Some idiot felt that distortion is a mandatory effect on anything that has six strings.

Penis goes where?

2011-10-19 02:26:33 PM
That's the thing--it wasn't funny. It was pure distilled heavy rock and roll.

2011-10-19 02:31:35 PM
And it's nice to see a black guy steal back what LZ stole. ;)

Which half of the guitarist did you meet? I hope it was the top half. It would be very awkward if you met the bottom half and had to find something to shake instead of a hand.

2011-10-19 03:42:03 PM
Holy shiat! That was way more impressive than I thought it would be.

Michael Winslow/Reggie Watts duo tour.

Book it.

His "History of the Typewriter" was one of the most genius things I have seen online....

He's really good live, even to this day. His sound FX in person are amazing, and he loves poking fun at someone leaving to go to the bathroom (every show I've been to). If you haven't been to one of his shows, it's worth it.

What impressed me the most was the kick drum sound he made. It was exactly that 70's open flabby kick sound from the record.

All of the guitarists I've met can be divided into 2 halves. I have, therefor, met both halves.

And that is why Michael Winslow is an American Treasure.

I used to book Michael into Tulagis Boulder, Co during the middle 70s for kicks in between sets of our headliners. He was unpolished, weird as all get out and trying to find his way in the entertainment business and you could just tell ... that kid had talent and drive. Underneath the early career stage miscues it was clear he was going to be awesome. I am amazed and delighted.

Wasn't old enough to go to Tulagis in the 70's, but I bet he fit right in to Boulder. The best place to grow up in the 70s and 80s-nothing but fun everywhere you looked.........

Jim from Saint Paul: he does

I came her for this reference, expected to leave dissatisfied. It went better than expected.
